Window is missing the border and drop shadow
-
@Triangulix
Ah, I see them now, never noticed it.Cheers, mib
-
@DoctorG Curious is on 10 but not on 7. Sadly, I'm on win11 where everything is frameless
I presume @Triangulix already tested the native window settings and failed
Non native may be workaround-able via mods. Althought is not a solution.
-
@Triangulix "...decided to suppress them..." Actually, no. Vivaldi developers are actively trying to figure out why their UI is being treated differently from that of other programs. They have done literally nothing to try to remove borders or drop shadows.
-
@Ayespy Well, they decided to configure the window in a way that it has no frame. With a tool like WinSpy some window properties can be changed at runtime.
Now there is a border. Unfortunately not permanent and in the wrong color.
I see that you allow other users to harrass me but delete my reaction...
-
@Triangulix I delete intemperate language. Cursing and insulting people are not permitted.
-
@Ayespy Are you willing to defend your actions in court?
-
@Triangulix No need.

While this is frustrating, it's good to know that the developers are working on it. (Let's refrain from tapping on the glass. The moderators are just trying to help.) As a temporary workaround in the meantime, I have enabled the status bar along the bottom, and moved the Panel to the left side (scroll bar usually marks the right side), to create some makeshift borders. Hopefully there will be a fix out soon.

Downloaded the latest update, was hoping this issue would be fixed by now. If we cannot fix it, is it at least possible as a work around, to add the option to turn on a black border on Vivaldi windows for now?
-
It's been two months... The edges still haven't appeared...

The solid border css is just a messy fix, it looks not really nice.
Vivaldi really should stop glorifying themselfs over inflationary new features and fix the little nagging annoying bugs that are all over the place. -
Could someone explain to me why some people use non-maximized windows?
-
@barbudo2005 The settings dialog is a non-maximized window, which I use daily.
I guess there are many users with only one monitor who wish to see at least two applications at once. They are not all constantly using Vivaldi to the exclusion of all other programs, like you and I.
If I sometimes use another application, I switch to it with Alter+Tab, as I also prefer to use all available screen real estate (1200x1600 pixels) for those other applications (usually my web publishing app, and my DTP program, which serves as my word-processor too).
Other apps like Notepad, Windows Explorer, and IrfanView are not maximised.

Do you have them "on top"? (all 3 visible?)
-
@barbudo2005 No. They are open in the background, and I switch to them when I need them with Alt+Tab.
They have borders and drop shadows that make them stand out from the Vivaldi page.
-
That is the point. If you don't have them on top, why they are not maximized when you want to use them?
Is because they are of lesser importance?
-
@barbudo2005 Because then I cannot see the maximised app window (Vivaldi or PagePlus) about which I may be making notes, or into which I may wish to drag a PDF file.

Because of that I use 2 monitors.
-
@barbudo2005 I also use two monitors, but I usually have YouTube open on the landscape monitor.
Anyway, there is no point in maximising Notepad (the lines are then too long), or Windows Explorer.
