Sending/Syncing Tabs between devices not working
-
@brianrubin
The bug VB-86341 "Send to your devices" option doesn't work
is still open and assigned to a developer.
The code was removed from the Chromium developer, I hope we get it back at some point.Cheers, mib

@brianrubin It’s not a problem, but I think it’s unlikely it will get reintroduced the same way as before, if ever. I just want to make clear the functionality did not disappear. In my opinion »send tab to device« duplicates functionality the reading list already has, but the later has much more potential and ways to improve it.

Agreed.

Yeah you're probably right. I just replied to this thread to show there's still interest in such functionality.

Bump for this getting addressed. I am no coder and am sure the Vivaldi team has plenty of work already - I wish there was some way to take the code that was taken out, and put it back in. Since Brave is open source is there no way to look at what they did to continue this functionality?
There is certainly interest in this functionality, fingers crossed it can get addressed!
I still love vivalid, just which I could get all the vivalid love to sync across devices

There are an estimated 1.5 trillion ways to get a tab onto another device using Vivaldi functionality. I’m baffled by this topic. It should also be noted that »send tab to another device« has always been the slowest of the bunch and nagged with a silly popup. The topic is old, but nowadays the reading list is the most casual and non‐committal way to share a tab between devices.
Well, none of the other 1.5 trillion ways works as good and fast as a proper "send tab to another device". They are all just half assed workarounds, not alternatives. None of the Vivaldi options I know of come close to Firefox' "send to device".
Also, some posts here make it sound like it's not working for anyone because some internal functionality was removed. If that's the case, why is it still an option in the UI? To confuse users?
I prefer Vivaldi Desktop over Firefox, but the interoperability of Desktop and Android of Firefox means I'll go back to Firefox for now...
Edit: Regarding the reading list: It's the worst workaround. By the time the reading list syncs and I can access the tab I want to have on my other device, I can make a tea...

@Maritn Coming from Firefox where I use this functionality frequently, it bothered me a lot that it was not working from my phone to my desktop, until I found this topic.
If a functionality is presented in the UI, it should work, and using some workaround should be just that a workaround until the functionality is back and working. But by the reactions, looks like it won’t happen

The feature is still broken and no fix yet.
-
As i remember sending tabs was removed by Chromium devs, means: Chromium core issue.

@maxdule
Hi, I like the feature but it was removed from the Chromium developer. It is not broken or a bug.
Anyway, I use sync to other devices often and it work quite well if you restart Vivaldi or trigger the sync update yourself.
Create a bookmark for vivaldi://sync-internals
When you need tabs on an other device open the link, hit the Trigger GetUpdate button.
Do the same on the other device.I have the sync-internals page as speed dial or have it open anyway on my mobile, for example.
file:///home/pepo/Dropbox/vivaldi/screen_shots/2023-06-15 21.15.18 sync-internals 64e747c38ddc.png
Seems a bit cumbersome but need only a second.
Cheers, mib

On the other hand, why is there a UI option for a removed feature?
How does it look like? Upload a screenshot please.
-
@maxdule Is that Android or iOS?
-
@maxdule Ah, ok.
From Desktop version it was removed. -
@mib2berlin Unforturately, the cloud icon on the desktop doesn't work reliably if the number of tabs open on mobile is close to a 1000
They are synced extremely unreliably, only a couple of hundred random tabs are shown in the menu and it's really hard to find the one currently open on my phone.
Any suggestions beside “send to other devices” that work for this use case?
(an illustration below; only 500 of about 1000 tabs on each device are shown)

@dsent
Hi, don´t be one of the 0.1% user using more than 500 tabs and you are fine.
But I understand.
The bug report has higher priority and a developer is assigned.
I bet the Vivaldi team want this feature, it´s just a matter of time we get it back.Cheers, mib

@DoctorG uhhh, removed? And I was wondering why it's not working... Flow option in Opera works great so I hoped for an alternative here..
-
@Mido Yes, the Chromium core developers removed it; if there could be a solution then Vivaldi dev team would have re-adedd the missing feature.
-
Hello, is there any news on send-to-device option? Maybe adding workspaces to the mobile version might be a workaround to restore it?
-
@belenus No, As Chromium devs have not added this feature back to Desktop version, Vivaldi had not got it.
-
@DoctorG Thank you for reply. Maybe adding workspaces to mobile Vivaldi could bypass Chrome's missing send-to feature?
-
@belenus
Hi, there are a lot feature requests about workspaces, check @LonM page for searching requests.
It seems sync workspaces has many votes, first for mobiles is > Add it.https://lonmcgregor.github.io/VivaldiFeatureRequests/#tag=&req=workspaces&minscore=0&tagsEnabled=
