Sending/Syncing Tabs between devices not working
-
@patrickweiden Yes,
-
I was thinking about downloading Vivaldi today and I decided not to because of this thread -- well, because "send tab to [device]" is a feature I use all the time on Firefox and Chrome. Hope to see this ironed out soon so I can give this browser a try.

@zirco740 Sending tab from/to device is broken since 5.3 versions until 5.4.
A know and already reported bug. -
I also discovered problems with sync before 5.3. The current bug reports opened for sync issues are:
VB-86341 Confirmed
VB-86760 Duplicate of VB-86883
VB-86883 Confirmed -
@profoundish: Well, this is one of my major "issues" also of using Vivaldi at all times, not switching between it and Firefox. There are some other not-so-nice things I would also like to see in Vivaldi, but those are not as "important" as this one here...
-
@patrickweiden Yes, the broken sending between devices is really a disturbing issue.
I try to ask a dev/sync server admin why this happens. -
@DoctorG: Thank you very much for this. I was already wondering why Vivaldi has sync problems, but other Chromium-based browsers (e.g., Brave, which I tested) do not have sync problems. It must be something Vivaldi-specific, but I do not know whether it is a browser- (frontend-) or sync server- (backend-) -based issue...

I did not get any information, if it is the special Vivaldi Sync implementation in browser or server side.
-
@DoctorG: Is there any news regarding the Sync issue from devs' side?
-
@patrickweiden Sadly no progress for a fix.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I hope it's fixed soon. One of the reasons I switched to Vivaldi was the ease of sending tabs between devices.
-
@brianrubin: I also hope for a fix coming out soon, but as the thread is open from Feb 5, I do not expect a fix to come out soon, unfortunately. And I cannot believe that there was a bigger problem with Sync in general, as other Chromium-based browsers (like Brave) have a working Sync... I dunno...
-
@patrickweiden Yeah it's super frustrating, especially because, at one time, it worked GREAT. I just don't get how it was so thoroughly broken.
-
@brianrubin: Me neither. Just wondering about and if someone (@DoctorG) could find out more details about the problem, this would be very interesting (at least for me)...
-
FYI: VB-86341: "Send to your devices" option doesn't work - Vivaldi dev said that was removed by Chromium devs from Chromium core
Sad.

Very very ... very sad.
@DoctorG: Can you please ask back why then e.g. Brave still has the feature? I do not think that Brave has a different "basis" for syncing than Vivaldi has - but I do not know (just assuming - hence wondering)...

I will.

Interesting thing is if you go to the Sync Node Browser tab in vivaldi://sync-internals you can see the tabs have been received by the device. There's just something blocking them from being displayed
Come on Vivaldi team, you've got a great product here, why aren't you prioritising this one bug that's messing up with everyone's day to day flow?
