Automatically "fetch" thumbnails from websites for speed dial bookmarks?
-
I notice that the Bookmarks bar automatically applies thumbnail images to each bookmark however the Speed Dial bookmarks only sometimes add a thumbnail.
I am coming from Opera where once you create a speed dial bookmark it automatically adds a thumbnail once you visit the site once, however on Vivaldi it only seems to work for some websites. (I use the exact same speed dial bookmarks that I imported.)
I know you are able to create custom images but it's a little tedious.

It's most websites, it sometimes automatically adds a thumbnail but most are blank (on the speed dial.)

@sergic25 Unable to reproduce. I just added this page without any issues.

If I have speed dial open and the webpage and refresh the page it adds them, thankyou for the help, i got it now.

@sergic25 It is weird however that they are a snapshot of the page where as in Opera it's the title of the page with the custom background.
Opera:
Vivaldi:
See how more useful the Opera thumbnail is vs the Vivaldi? You can actually tell immediately when looking at the thumbnail what it is instead of having to look closely at the top left corner. (in this specific case)

@sergic25 Yes, the thumbnails are often useless. I prefer to use my own custom thumbnails. Since I have only twenty-four speed dials, and rarely change them, it is the best solution for me. Text only dials do not appeal to me.

@sergic25 I find most thumbnails of websites in Vivaldi useless, they are often incomplete because of blocker or dynamic content. Favicons or Apple touch icons used in Opera 12 were the better approach. Selecting own images as in Vivaldi 4.3 is nice but more work to do.

@pesala I created thumbnails for each Speed Dial Bookmark then added them from my desktop, I deleted the files after because I wrongly (stupidly) assumed they would be saved in some browser install folder somewhere after being added, as soon as I deleted them off the desktop they went away in the browser.
-
@sergic25 It is best to save them in the User Data folder, which does not get replaced on upgrading Vivaldi.

I've created my own thumbnails with this website: textdrom.com.
My speed dials look like this now, but the website also offers different types of styles. Some how I can't directly upload the image here, I always get an error

@oudstand That's cool, I'll try it out. Thanks!
