PDF viewer to remember page
-
When you read pdf then close and reopen Vivaldi, it doesn't remember page in the .pdf you ended at and instead starts on the page 1. This is mainly problematic when reading books, as user probably won't finish them in one go and there is no way how to create bookmark where he ended.
I believe this could be achieved without the need to create any special pdf storage files, if the pdf viewer would modify url during viewing, by adding current page number after # sign e.g
file:///S:/Downloads/MyBook.pdf#55
then just keeping the URL, which Vivaldi already does, would keep the information and allow to return the user where he ended.
This is is, of course, just how I would design it. I would be very glad for any implementation. -
I actually found out that Edge already does this https://techdows.com/2021/09/microsoft-edge-95-now-opens-pdfs-from-where-you-left-off.html.
Never have I though this day will come but I am setting Edge as my default app for something (.pdf) -
Hi! I really love to use Vivaldi as my go to browser whenever I am studying things as it saves my tabs, etc. However, is there a way for me to have the opened pdf file pages in the browser to be saved? For example, I am reading a pdf and I am on page 20, but whenever I close the browser then reopen it, the page goes back to page 1. Is there a way to retain it to page 20? Thank you very much.

@zackymonkey Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Unfortunately there is no way to make it remember what page was opened last in the PDF viewer. I recommend you download the PDF and instead use a free standalone viewer like Sumatra PDF, it remembers the position of opened documents:
https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/free-pdf-readerThe PDF viewer in most browsers is very limited.

@pathduck Thank you! It's just that MS Edge does have that feature but idk how. But yeah even if Vivaldi doesn't have that, I will still continue using this and I hope there is a possibility that it will be implemented in the future!
-
@Pathduck Firefox is able to remember the position despite the fact that there is no way.

@sergDash Does Firefox use the Chromium PDF Plugin?
I suspect that it is much harder to code and maintain for each Chromium upgrade than you imagine.
I recommend the PDF-XChange Editor. Even the free version has a ton of features.
Note, too, that this request has zero votes after a year, so maybe not many users regard it as important.
Vote for the first post if you haven't already done so. (Voting again will remove your vote).

@Pesala Most people just use what they are given and will not register on the forum and vote. It is a bad policy to target the majority. In this case, you can get something average and slurred. Another useless browser. But if you implement some important functions well, then you get a competitive product that has something to brag about. Another important feature that Firefox has is video playback when the screen is turned off. I listen to news from YouTube through it, I donβt need to look at the picture and put the battery down.

@sergDash I can turn my screen off and Vivaldi will continue playing whatever it plays. You need to fix this on operating system/device level. And what you believe to be important is just another opinion in an ocean of features users deem necessary.
-
@luetage Clearly, just one more opinion on which to spit. And what is the purpose of this forum?
-
@sergDash Getting real time help with issues, sharing modifications, finding bugs, generally helping each other out or just discuss and talk about stuff. And of course requesting features. But you cannot expect the devs to implement them immediately, or others to share your sentiment.
edit: One thing to note: getting your voice heard and suggestions considered is far easier on Vivaldi, try that with any other browser, you will be ignored 100% of the time.
