Welcoming and cozy forum VS. cold and impersonal forum
-
I wish that the forum design will change. The current design looks so impersonal and cold - it's not what Vivaldi as a Browser and company stands for. I hope it will be much more welcoming and cozy. Please staff, create and pick up a new design for the this forum.
-
@spacepool , use the forum extension for Vivaldi, with this you can adjust it to your like
-
@Catweazle Thanks for the idea, but i don't want to support Google at all and also not the store of Google. The company and all what have to do with this company is way to powerful and that is not good for the world, the future and technology and its connection with humanity and the evolution of humanity.
Also with the forum i talk about a good home for the Vivaldi community in general (; it's just important how the community stays with Vivaldi. It's like the living room for us and it could be much more welcoming.
@guigirl why not (: but it needs to be much more cozy, a good feeling for the community. The current design is a little uninviting. Also its not good connected - the MyBlog part needs to be much more integrated and connected to the forum. But it's almost invisible. When i think at the MyOpera times - it was alive, connected and fun. This platform needs much more passion and love from the staff.

@spacepool The extension was created by the Vivaldi Community. See this thread.
Google had nothing to do with it; they are just hosting it in their Webstore.
-
@spacepool That extension is not a Google product (it is written by a community member) & is available on GitHub too.
-
@spacepool The extension is available on github. Click on »Code«, download as zip, unpack. Enable developer mode in
vivaldi://extensions
and load the extension unpacked. You know, that’s what community is about. Not a forum design by a company, but sharing solutions and helping each other. Declining the help and demanding change is what the community is definitely not about.

@Pesala @luetage @hlehyaric
Thank you. Good, GitHub. I'm excited how Vivaldi will develope in future, maybe it will be even more surprising then i think ^^But i remember that on the MyOpera community platform when it Opera was intependend and on its own way - the community was very good connected, here its to seperated for my feel and the design is also not that cool i think. But thanks for the tips (:

@spacepool You have to take into account this community is far smaller. Vivaldi doesn’t have the user base Opera had. As for design that’s purely a matter of taste and doesn’t make or break the community. The important thing is that everyone contributes and you haven’t done that yet as far as I can tell.
To be fair you would have to compare the current Opera community with Vivaldi and we win the comparison easily. There is no Opera community left and their forums are a wasteland.
-
@spacepool See my forum signature. You can put a link to your blog there.
-
@spacepool , PS. GitHub is from Microsoft, not much better than Google. But this has nothing to do with this extension, made by an Forum member.
-
@catweazle It’s not. That’s like saying Minecraft or Skype are “from” Microsoft when in reality MS acquired existing companies and the numbnuts let them. There are of course better alternatives around, but if you need cooperation Github is sadly the standard and using an alternative approach will estrange part of your community.
-
Isn't Gitlab the non-BigTech alternative to github?
-
@paul1149 It’s not, Gitlab is just another corporate, profit oriented git service. Two promising alternatives right now are Codeberg and sourcehut.
-
Very nice job, @luetage. I hadn't seen that before. I use the Sprucey CSS, which I have modified. Two things I find that help my eye strain are shorter line lengths and alternating background colors.
-
@paul1149 Yeah, I stopped support for inbuilt third party themes because it was a pain maintaining them. You can implement this in the forum mod by either adding the code to the standard.css file in
/themes
, or by using the inbuilt user css functionality and adding the.vfm-standard
class to all the rules, which will contain the changes to the standard theme option. Feel free to share your modified code in any case. Both shorter line lengths and different background colors for posts can be achieved in a regular theme too, see this modification for an example ☛ https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/19728/vivaldi-forum-mod/903 -
Welcome to the party!
