Solved Unfetchable email message makes account unusable with prefetching enabled
-
@ayespy Thanks for the reply... how exactly did you pin down which was the email message causing the issue. Was it the last one in M3 or the one after that on the IMAP server? Or maybe another or is it the last newest one it downloaded before it stopped updating?
-
@wolvenspectre It was one that I located using a message number found in the IMAP log with the error report, and then scanned through and found in the M3 databases. It was not a trivial task by any means. It was an email I had received about 18 years ago, and had imported into GMail about 10 years ago from an Opera M2 database.
-
Part of the problem is I am getting no errors in my Mail Status under Account, Messages, or Logs even with Logs on IMAP and STMP turned on. The only error I am getting is on the Status Bar.
-
@wolvenspectre Click on the little gear on the right, slect "View Log," and in the resulting popup, select "console."
-
OK I am lost at these logs... my IT web development didn't got too far, and is not to mention way out of date and practice.
All I get is this that all has tooltips for a chrome-extension but I don't have any on this profile.
-
@wolvenspectre That "Chrome extension" is the mail client.
-
Oh, I did not know they used the extension framework for M3.
So no info that relates to which message is the issue or am I going to have to do this again from scratch to get error info that will help me dig out which message it is?
-
@wolvenspectre Not that I see there.

Hi
Thank you fir adding mail to Vivaldi, it is a great feature.
I added my Gmail account and I am receiving the following error message."21:49:56.617 error [Mail - [email protected]] IMAP connection encountered an error! Error: Unexpected \x00 at position 2827"
The time changes and it is a continuing error. I used a specific password and it was verified.
Any ideas how to fix it.
Thank you

@mmartinez known bug: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/66069/unfetchable-email-message-makes-account-unusable-with-prefetching-enabled
reported as VB-81742 by me I think. The problem has been there since the beginning. If you disable prefetching the error should go away. Other than that, only finding the actual messages and delete it... It is all in the thread I mentioned.

@durtro
Hi
I searched but could not find where to disable prefetch?
Is it a network setting or mail setting?
Thank You again
Mario -
@mmartinez You go into the Settings window, open Mail settings, and then select each account, one at a time, and for each account enter the "Identity" tab and uncheck "Download Messages for Offline Viewing and Searching." This setting used to be called "Prefetch all messages." That's why people refer to prefetch.
-
Thank you for help
Mario -
Still can't enable the "Download Messages for Offline Viewing and Searching" due to this. Snapshot 5.2.2621.3
-
So the email mentioned in this topic is now fetched by the client. A thousand or more messages were prefetched, however the client seems to stall with this message:
There is no error however so don't know what is wrong.
-
In the last snapshot build I do not have the problem, however the prefetching seems to stall:
There is no shown error so don't know what is wrong.
-
Are you on the snapshot or stable? I think I tried with 5.2 and nothing has changed for me.
(an obvious thing would be to try with a clean profile, though I doubt if it would help)
-
@felagund today's snapshot

I've got one account that always switches in between
Connected to [email protected]
IMAP connection encountered an error! Error: Socket closed unexpectedl!
- a state that I cannot quite identify.
The curious thing is that it works correctly when I do not prefetch all messages, and also that I've got other accounts on the same server (with the same settings) that work absolutely fine.
Probably it's also about a special message?! No clue.
