Translate text selected in browser
-
It's great that Vivaldi now has its own translation service. This request should, therefore, probably be easy(er) to implement:
I'd like the option to select text on a page, right click and then choose Translate from the context menu to translate only that piece of text.
It would be useful in forums, for instance, where the page is in a language I understand (and, therefore, I'm not given the option to translate it because I disabled the option for all the pages in that language) but the content that someone posted is in a language I don't understand.I've been using a forum that does automatically translate the users comments. The idea is that any user can post in his/her own language and everyone else read in their own (maybe different) language as well but some of the translations are just terrible. Thankfully there is the option to see the original text. However, if it's in a language I don't understand, I need to copy it to the DeepL translation panel I have added to Vivaldi panels, which is a bit annoying (F4, click DeppL button, select text, drag over to the text box in the panel, scroll the panel to the right to see translation, F4 to hide panels again). Could be worse, I guess, but I would much rather prefer to have Vivaldi translating it for me
(oh, and make it work in Android too, of course)
Edit: While we're at it, please consider this related feature request as well: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/63653/view-original-text-on-a-translated-page

@pauloaguia This looks to be the same as Translate Submenu.

@pauloaguia , Vivaldi's translator is in beta and certainly still requires a lot of work.
In the meantime I use the IM Translator, which does exactly what you require. It uses 3 translation engines, from Google, Bing (in my opinion better than Google's) and a translator of its own. -
yes,I also would like to select text, the then again I use qtranslate now.

I like idea to select text and a bubble appears with translated text according to your mother language (this which is setup into the browser). I'm using such tool, and I would also like to vivaldi can do natively contextual quick translation. For a browser which is a window opened to the world, it's not a secondary feature.
For me, this translation service should have a quick access, and should be transparent in use.
A way for that (i use and test it now for several years with an extension) is to use a mouse delay trigger to show the translation : once you have highlighted and selected your text, then don't move your mouse cursor (inside a small tolerance area) for some milliseconds, and then bubble appears. For managing selected text (like sending it to every engine, copy text, use alternative engine, make http text as link…) the better for me would be a selection bubble (every common tools you need is quickly shown), please look :
Quick Selection Bubble for Search Engine and Panel : -
