How do sort bookmark folders individually?
-
How do I tell individual folders to be date or manual etc independent of all the other folders?
When I set a folder it sets all other folders and the entire bookmark bar accordingly. -
@Amphitrite A global setting is all that is available at present.
-
@Ayespy Well darn. This hopefully, then, is on the developer to-do list.

@Ayespy ok, another thing I noticed, and maybe it happened with last update because I don't see how syncing could have done it, is that from clicking the folders on the bookmark bar I cannot no longer move the bookmarked links to another order.
Can you explain this? I often manually sort some folders from the bookmark bar--have not touched the sidebar for bookmarks for sorting bookmarks until tonight--as I add a new bookmark to the folder according. When I manually resorted a folder tonight from the bookmark sidebar, that order did not show on the bookmark bar version of the folder. I ended up having to copy the ordered folder in the sidebar and then delete the folder in the bookmark bar so it could be replaced with a corrected copy.
-
@Amphitrite If you choose any order other than manually, then you cannot manually reorder them.
Sort Order on the Bookmark Bar is independent of the sort order in the Bookmark Panel or Bookmark Tab.
-
@Pesala ok so confused on the first part of your answer. So I used to be able to manually order the links from the bookmark bar within a folder. But since I ended up setting the all the folders by date globally while figuring things out (even though I set them all now to manual), that action of setting a global by date in the bookmark panel froze the manual ability within the folder on the bookmark bar.
The syncing tonight is what got my to this point of fiddling with the bookmarks to find how convoluted the process is. :- S

@Amphitrite No. The sort orders are independent. Right-click on the Bookmarks Bar to set the sort order for that.
-
@Pesala Thanks, I will play with that tomorrow daytime after some sleep--already pulled my hair out tonight after a couple hours of confusion.
-
@Amphitrite So - here's what I do. I sort the entire mess by date.
Then, I go into any area or folder I want different, and set that to "sort manually" and drag them to where I want them.

Amphitrite,
Vivaldi has many good things but bookmark management is not one of them. When my bookmarks start to bug me, I export them out of Vivaldi. I then import them into a browser that has better bookmark management like Firefox. Order your individual folders however you would like. Next delete all your bookmarks in Vivaldi. Then import your bookmarks from wherever (Firefox).
I'm sure someday Vivaldi will have better bookmark management, just not today.
