I'm not sure if this may already be the case with other systems, but for me
mailto:
does not yet create the draft for a new message in Vivaldi.EDIT:
I have set/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
tox-scheme-handler/mailto=vivaldi-snapshot.desktop;
(by just removing thunderbird), but Vivaldi does still not open a draft when I click on a mailto link (-> nothing happens). Reported as VB-74554 -

If I just enter
mailto:test
in the browser bar, a draft window for thunderbird opens. I have not found any settings for making vivaldi the default mail handler while skipping through the settings. Have I missed such? -

Have I missed such?I am using Windows, and there are settings there, but clearly Vivaldi should also just open in Vivaldi by default. We need better settings there.

@jumpsq Vivaldi is based on Chromium, and cursed Chromium (gtk) & mailto & Desktop Environments different than Gnome = old, sad, unending Horror stories!!! (bugs, xdg-open, xdg-email, etc...) OMZ, no.
-
@npro Agreed, but for the last two snapshots,
mailto
has actually been working for me.
[email protected] -
@jumpsq Alright, I tested it too and it's working. Let's hope it stays like that
-
@npro Not for me! Absolutely nothing happens. No tab, nothing.
-
@stevenpemberton If you are using Windows did you set Vivaldi as your mail program?
-
Using Ubuntu
-
@Folgore101 Using Ubuntu, and I do have Vivaldi set as default email program.
-
@stevenpemberton I don't know Linux enough to give you any indication, you have to wait for some more experienced user.

This doesn't work for me.
I click the mailto and thunderbird opens inside of Vivaldi.
$ xdg-mime query default x-scheme-handler/mailto vivaldi-snapshot.desktop
I'm trying to find at the base why it's still thunderbird, I haven't found it yet.

Just noticed that it didn't work for me either this time for a reason.
Fortunately it was easy to fix without the pain I was afraid I would undergo. I've edited my
$HOME/.local/share/applications/vivaldi-stable.desktop
and addedx-scheme-handler/mailto;
, which was missing, to the end of theMimeType=
line. Then restarted the browser from the panel. -

@troypulk @stevenpemberton Sorry, I can not be of help to you, the information I provided is to be taken as is and for what it's worth. I don't use Thunderbird in any system of mine, nor am I using Debian or Debian derivative, so I don't know what entries it could have written and where. As I also said above, in the long past (>10 years) I had some troubles with the mailto handling when I was using OpenSUSE and because it was a pain fixing it, I don't want to risk another one by making tests, if you excuse me . But have you looked in the links Gwen-Dragon provided? Maybe you can find some solutions there https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/434294

Look in
/usr/share/applications/
