Introducing Vivaldi Mail in Technical Preview

@Gwen-Dragon thanks, guessed that was it. I'd only add that it's not just the ability to create folders that's missing, it's the fact that new folders you create in the web version aren't then reflected in the browser version (unless they were already there at the time you registered the account in the browser).
-
great work, am loving this so far!
Someone else may have already mentioned it but there doesn't seem to be a way at present to add or remove imap folders from the vivaldi client, is this feature planned ?Edit: please excuse me!
This clearly has already been mentioned, so I'll just add my upvote for supporting this! -
@sonik You can subscribe to and unsubscribe from folders and toggle the display.
-
@luetage: thanks for the tip, i already know how to do that, I'm referring to actually creating and deleting the folders on the server.
I have created a FR on the forum here https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/54979/add-remove-imap-folders if anyone would like to upvote it -
@Gwen-Dragon thanks, I've now done that. restarting (2115) didn't help.
-
@aja actually - the folder just popped up. perhaps a restart was all that was needed, or perhaps it just takes a long time (many hours). I've withdrawn the bug report.

Random usability comments - don't get me wrong, I think this is a fine job:
- the hidden dropdown arrows next to "Filters" and "Flags" (for example) are a bit painful. you have to be moused over the item before you see the arrow, and then you have to go click on it. better just allow the item once highlighted to perform the expand/collapse action, or put the arrow to the left of the title (which would be consistent with the Account expanders).
- This is probably impossible, but it would be good if the mail interface could use keyboard shortcuts that are already used for other purposes out in the browser.
-
Date format doesn't fully follow the OS. My Windows date format is (e.g.) 30-Dec-20, and it shows that way in the taskbar clock, but on altering the V date setting to "inherit from OS", the mail client shows 30-12-20 (in the "unread" list, for example). I haven't seen this elsewhere in V - not sure where I'd actually look for it - so I don't know if this is a mail client thing or something broader.
-
Q: is there a command-line switch to run a V session with just the mail client in it? I'm finding myself getting driven nuts by continually having to shrink the mail sidebar to get a decent view of other tabs, and then when I try moving the mail tab to its own window I'm told that the actual client only runs in one window. So I'm thinking my preferred option will be to keep the mail client window separate from everything else.
-
@aja
Hi, there is not such a command-line switch but then you can run a different E-Mail client anyway. There is a feature request about running M3 in separate WIndow/Tab like the settings window.
I will try to find it and edit here.Cheers, mib
EDIT: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/54016/option-sidebar-like-mail-layout -
@mib2berlin thanks very much - wasn't aware of that. it expresses really quite well what I've been finding in my first couple of days of trying out the mail client. incessant need to / uncertainty over how to minimize the sidebar. hope the discussion happens - maybe "mail in a window" is not the right solution but how it's currently done is confusing (at least to me).

Yeah, I was confused a bit by this the first time as well.

I discussed this in https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/53839/focus-issues-using-keyboard - it's currently very difficult using keyboard to browse and open feed articles...

@mossman agree, and that post makes another aspect clearer. I've managed, over time, to get gmail to an almost mouse-free state; I don't see this as being easy with the V mail client. But I also hadn't twigged that the various keyclicks in the keyboard settings couldn't be reused between sections.

hi everyone, how can i get notified once gmail account can be added to vivaldi mail client with oAuth?
-
I've been eagerly awaiting this since first learning of Vivaldi. Grateful thanks to the development team and volunteers!
-
@Gwen-Dragon I added a report over here, any ideas? https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/54990/error-during-threading-means-no-more-fetching/2
