Address bar and tab fixes, better DRM support, plus the start of the Mail, Calendar and RSS Technical Previews – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2115.4
-
@Stardust I am logged in YT and watching it right now, no problem
-
@iAN-CooG good to know, thanks!
-
When will Users of the stable releases get the chromium 87 security fixes?
-
@colebantam Someone told you that Chromium 86 is not safe?
-
@colebantam: we are working on it
-
@npro said in Address bar and tab fixes, better DRM support, plus the start of the Mail, Calendar and RSS Technical Previews – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2115.4:

Well, you can assume that, if Chromium releases any security fixes on version N, means version N-1 contains security issues.
In the meantime, a new mobile snapshot with chr87 is out right now

not counting this desktop SS, so as @Ruarí said, they're already on it. -
Awesome news! I loved M2 and will certainly leave thunderbird for M3, once it's mature enough!
Pretty please, fix the new tab next to active regression. -
oHi Fellas,
& Thanks for this amazing job !!
I know it's just preview,
For a quick feedback of the mail feature:- as in M1/2 there is speed in mail research which is great (and already kills thunderbird ^^)
but - 'sort as' only allows 'by received date'
- sort does not work properly with threaded msgs ('Re:' msgs are not part of "hiding" original thread (without 'Re:' at beginning of msg) but in another one below)
- It would be good to have different sorting option as in M2: I liked to have threaded 'global/all', unthreaded 'Sent',... etc
- would be good to have html signature (at least a 'load html' like in thunderbird)
- would be good to allow custom theme
- would be nice to have PGP management
That's all for now
on Win10 x64 Standalone--
Fin' - as in M1/2 there is speed in mail research which is great (and already kills thunderbird ^^)

More tests: Most of them could be a lack of implementation.
I'll consider them bugs when Mail will move to Beta Status (now we are on Tech Preview]:- Clicking on "all account" only show loading selected view string... (but I should add a real 2nd account, maybe).
- Same happens with labels string (I've two test labels). Choosing a single label, works.
- Messages could be marked as spam one at the time. (could be a TP limitation)
- Filters need love, care and things like AND/OR. But I'm really happy they are already there.
- Some columns - especially
Size
andattachment
have small issues while resizing/moving. - Size column has no size. (But could be a limitation).
- Option to disable Quick settings on mail app. Why? F2 is used to rename (ok, I can change the shortcut)
- It seems flags have major issues (mark work, using not)
- No way to cancel account creation if it hangs to fetch servers (you have to close settings)
- No way to login without OAUTH [seems already in progress]
- Mail forced in main window [known and in works]
- On really dark themes could be not comfortable [a custom theme for mailer would be nice]
- Sort feature need more work [TP limitation, I guess]
- (Remote) folders can be created only by webmail (TP limitation)
- A restart is need to see remote folders in mailer [VB-74540]
- Auto labelling is probably not implemented yet.
I'm giving an "ergonomic shape" to this hotmail test account which is a very good sign for M3.
Oh, and is lot faster than M2 and TB (but I could confirm with bloated accounts) -
The Winareo blog reports very positively:
-
@stardepp I already like it... it seems comfortable.
Sadly I only have another test account which is gmail and I'd avoid to do vivaldimail for tests (already too much) -
@iAN-CooG "Assumption is the mother of all f-ups" was said once in a well-known action film but I don't remember its name
. That's not always the case as N and N+1 are different branches, with different features that have their own new vulnerabilities. In case of security fixes affecting previous code, those can be backported, if you have to stay on previous code for any reason. Vivaldi has done it in the past.

The drop-down list for typed URLs is suddenly truncated. Way shorter than it was before I installed 2115.4.
I use the typed URL list a lot, so I just lost a bunch of productivity.
-
Just noticed that it didn't just lop off the bottom of the drop-down list. It selectively deleted items throughout the top part which it retained. Ouch.
-
@wpcoe I still see the ~16 typed elements as before
-
@Ruarí Backports or 2.5? It's hard to believe that 2.5 is less than two weeks away, even if M3 is not a factor because it's opt-in.
(I meant to say 3.5! But I'll leave the 2.5 in above for max effect.)
-
@rseiler You mean 3.5, don't you? Cause 2.5 has been released some time ago, you know…
-
Option to disable Quick settings on mail app. Why? F2 is used to rename
Well, I agree that Quick settings pose an issue, but for me it's a different reason: I do not want
Vivaldi Mail
(orCalendar
) to just vanish into any website. For me, they are pinned and shall never reload as anything else. I'd just want to use nicknames, quick commands etc. and have those executed on new tabs if I for example enter a URL.
For now, this does not seem to be possible, and I don't know yet how to adapt to this. -
Thanks for great times with Vivaldi, it is a time to move to another browser. Packing browser with random stuff never was a good way.
-
@nocturneop15: Nobody forces you to use Mail. If you don't want it or need it, you can disable it, and you won't know it's there.
