Bookmark list expanded by default
-
I'm a retired IT Tech and have been using Firefox for years. Mozilla's recent layoffs and questionable "upgrades" released recently have me on the hunt for a new browser. I came across Vivaldi recently and have begun evaluating it for my PC and also Android. It seems to be a good browser so far but one of the first things I've noticed is that when creating a new Bookmark I'm presented with a list of existing Bookmarks (I imported from FF) and the list is completely expanded. I have hundreds of folders and subfolders and being fully expanded is a scrolling nightmare. There are no - signs to collapse the tree in any way. I realize this may not be much of an issue for the user with just a handful of Bookmarks but it is cumbersome for those of us with hundreds. As a new Vivaldi user maybe I'm missing something. Thoughts? Comments? Thanks!

@Supertech
Hi, how do you save it?
I use mostly the icon in the address bar, it open the last used location.
Some use the bookmark panel and move URL to the location they want to save.
In the panel you can collapse all folders, for example.Cheers, mib

@Supertech To expand/collapse all folders in the Bookmarks Panel, use the right-click Context menu.

@Pesala Thanks for responding. I gather that there is more than one way to add a Bookmark but can find no definitive instructions anywhere. What I've tried so far is to browse to a site I wish to bookmark, click the bookmark icon at the far right of the address window, it brings up a window that displays a FULLY EXPANDED list of bookmarks. This is where I get confused. There is NO WAY in that window to collapse any of the tree presented to make it easier to choose a destination folder. I'm guessing I'm going about this completely wrong, although it is how it feels intuitive. Can you clarify what I should be doing? Thanks!

@Supertech There are several ways to add new bookmarks:
- From the Add Bookmark dialogue as in your screenshot (shortcut Ctrl+D). There is a feature request to Collapse Folders when Adding a Bookmark, but it probably won't happen any time soon. To quickly find a folder, Tab twice to focus the folder tree, then type one or two letters of the folder name, e.g. he for Health.
- Open the Bookmarks Panel, then drag and drop the badge from the URL field to the desired location. Folders will expand on hover.
- Open the target folder on the Bookmarks Bar, then use Add Active Tab.
