Option to disable autoplay video
-
This feature should be an integral part of every browser!
I wonder why it has not been implemented before, seeing so many features that Vivaldi has?!
-
Pls add this to desktop version as well.
-
I think it would be great if it should be added.
-
I also endorse this 3 year old feature request
-
This is one of the features that keeps me from recommending Vivaldi the most. It's such a QoL improvement that I can only think that Vivaldi has some agreement with Google to not add the feature
-
@tsrodr This topic is marked "Pipline" in the title, which means this requested feature will be realized by the Vivaldi developer team, but no date for completion has been set yet.
-
+1 add this asap
-
Need this. It's essential to block video when on limited data on mobile. Also having videos shoved in your face is unpleasant and rude behaviour to begin with.
-
Switched to Vivaldi and was deeply disappointed by the lack of this option.
-
@kerygma Yeah I'm nearly with you here, won't leave because of this but was VERY surprised to find out this isn't already in place. Edge already has a flag for it too, I figured Edge would be the last to add it not one of the first.

Another upvote. Extensions are unmaintained or don't work as intended. This needs to be part of Vivaldi by default. A browser that brags about customizability should have the ability to STOP videos from auto playing, especially since Google's intent is to allow ads to autoplay.

Yeah. Blocking autoplay is an absolute essential in every browser, let alone vivaldi. Its just unbelievable that such a user friendly browser like vivaldi doesn't have one yet
-
@kilroyklutz can you say exactly where in Settings? I couldn't find it
-
@ajose There currently isn't any option to block autoplay in Vivaldi (you'll need to use an extension like "Disable HTML5 Autoplay (Reloaded)" for that).
The original message was simply suggesting that the Vivaldi devs add an option to block autoplay in the settings. -
@amkitakk okay. I thought I missed the checkbox somehow
-
@ajose said in Option to disable autoplay video:
@kilroyklutz can you say exactly where in Settings? I couldn't find it
You can't find it because it does not exist. The option to Disable Audio and Video Autoplay should be available on every web browser for both computers (Windows, Mac AND Linux) and mobile devices (iOS and Android) and it should be ENABLED BY DEFAULT. Being forced to use an extension for a setting that is needed as much as this is insane. I have installed "Disable HTML5 Autoplay (Reloaded)", but it does not work for everything. This option needs to be provided yesterday.

@archlurker and also essential when in bandwidth-limited locations in rural America and all around the world.

Hi Everyone,
I realize that the discussion on this topic has been going on for quite awhile now, & I'm sure from a developers point of view that changes need to be put in some kind of prioritized order. Sure, it would be nice to have a setting available to prevent video's (especially html5 ones) from autoplaying. But unfortunately this item seems to be very low on the priorities list, and of course I DO realize that the people behind this browser just don't want to be considered 'copy cats' & implement a feature the same as a different chromium browser uses. But at least for me, since I do in fact use more than one chromium based browser, one of which has a very nice feature included with it. That is when you click on the little 'lock' icon in the address bar & select site settings, there's an setting in that group dealing with auto play, you can choose if you want to allow it for that site, as well as in the main settings area there's also a system wide setting as to autoplay, makes everything SO nice. I guess for now at least for me I'll just continue to utilize an extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-html5-autoplay-re/cafckninonjkogajnihihlnnimmkndgf to deal with this issue. -
