User profile support – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1468.4
-
@pettern: bit too heavy solution i think
can't quickly copy stuff between main profile and hidden profiles, can't do tools already configured for my current OS user, even accessing desktop would require to find the folder in Explorer (and maybe i won't be able to read/write to it anyway without getting administrative access (which is not a problem, but smells like a workaround))

If I keep a (pinned) tab with Outlook Calendar (outlook.live.com, monthly calendar view), Vivaldi's performance will be greatly affected over time (2-3 hours). In the end Vivaldi will crash!
Without this tab, everything is running fine.

@gwen-dragon: Thanks.

Question: will playing around with multiple profiles in this snapshot mess up sync with stable Vivaldi?
Still no answer from anyone...
I have not tried creating a new sub-profile in the snapshot since I've been waiting for an answer to this question!
-
Different user profiles per tab, could that be a thing in the future?

thanks, but not working -

thanks, but not working
Please be more clear on "not working". Did you do as the post states, create a .reg file, enter the URLs you need, and run it so it gets written to the registry?
Just so we're clear, does it look like this in regedit:
-
@Pathduck I'm not a Windows user but I didn't think that even that registry trick would work to enable/auto-activate Flash due to this change: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/272498
-
@xyzzy Well it ain't July yet mate :face_with_stuck-out_tongue:
The registry fix should work, at least for now...
-
in the meantime, can someone explain me, what's the difference between a private window and the guest account window? or do they behave in the same way? because that's what I think
-
@derDay A private window can read some of your data, like bookmarks, history, extensions etc. and will not automatically write to it (no new history entries added).
A guest profile is completely empty for both reading and writing your data.
Also, a private window will try and use in-memory as much as possible, but a guest profile might cache things onto your hard disk.
-
@LonM ok, I forgot, that I've access to my bookmarks within private windows
thx for clarification! -
Next snapshot - option to hide profile button ?
-
And it would also be nice if you could set the same icon on the profile button as it does on the Vivaldi Forum and Vivaldi Sync.
-
@regnas: probably not when basing on chromium that much
the same reason why we can't have private tabs like opera 12 had
-
@stardepp I'm not so sure about that. Many users don't make an avatar in the first place. But ignoring this, it's likely the avatar colors would clash with accent colors from tab (if activated) and more generally with the chosen theme colors – it probably wouldn't look very coherent.
-
I'm not sure if it started with this snapshot, but Vivaldi went into full slowness mode for me.
Opening a new tab - full second delay before anything happens. Closing a tab - same. No reaction to click (but the animations etc are still going) then it closes. Tab swtiching is usually faster, but also can get VERY slow.
Clicking few links to open in background tabs somehow accumulate slowness and I'm unable to use browser for even half a minute!
If next snap won't fix it I'm gonna report it.
Any tips how to help developers spot what's wrong? I can record some profiling informations or something if that's possible.
Empty profile seems to work fine.
-
@jacekn: This is how it looks: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/o8xzaso77dczac2/2019-03-05_11-49-08.mp4
(closing speed dial is much faster than full page, but you can see how slow is to open empty tab)

Yes? No? Maybe? I don't think so? Not in my experience?
...
... anyone?!

Yes, I think so, but the existing, originating from goggle Avators are pretty unsightly
