Question (to moderators / V-team) about image upload on forum
-
Background: I'm thinking about uploading Speed Dial thumbs here. But I have no idea if I should keep them in external sharing service or not...
-
What happens when user uploads PNG file to forum? Is there any autocompression?
-
Is there any size limit for uploaded pictures?
-
Does anyone consider creating dedicated section or service to share custom thumbnails?
Service => I think about storing/serving default speed dial thumbs with logos for example?...
Some companies do things like that.

I can't attest to how the platform handles uploads, but I would suggest avoiding uploading individual files if you have more than a few.
The forum makes for a pretty poor way to organise them. Other services (most cloud hosting like dropbox, onedrive etc.) are better at organising with folders and can let you "download all as zip".

There's always @D0J0P 's thread

This thread was good until it exceed 5 pages...
Sorry but it became long mess...
Forum format is not a good place to handle such a big gallery -
This is general thread. I was thinking about gathering thumbnails local for users from my country
@LonM I wanted to avoid creating yet another account on 3rd party service just for this...

@rotfl If you wanted to host it on
vivaldi.net
but get a bit more control on the files than forum formatting, you could look into the blogging platform. That wouldn't let you download all files as a
.zip
, but it would offer you better control in terms of image collections and the like. -
@rotfl You could use your Vivaldi Blog for this. You can upload PNG images but not zip or 7z archives (for security reasons). There is little to be gained by archive PNG anyway, apart from the convenience of downloading one file instead of many. There again, maybe users want only some images and not the whole lot?

Question: Are you planning to use them in your browser(s) or do you want to just share them with others?

If there is any, then I didn't notice.

I believe there is. What it is exactly - I think that's a question for the admins.

Some companies do things like that.Would that suppose to be some kind of an official repository or just a website with user-shared content? With the former, there would be some obvious limitations - with the latter, there would be a high risk of copyright infringement (or similar violations). I don't think we'll ever see any of these, although I wouldn't mind being proven wrong about it...

For sharing purposes ofc

[Treat this as loud thinking]
IMO sharing thumbs is nice but we need some better way to handle it.About copyright => what it there was an option "if your company wants to store logo in our repository, contact us" / a button to search for logo?
I dunno...
Or maybe just make it possible to download "default" thumbnail for cetrain URL to "local reposiory" by clicking special link?...
