Set Size for Tab Previews in Tab Stacks
-
When you hover your mouse over a tab, you will see a little popup with a preview of the underlying webpage. It would be cool if the height of this little popup could be adjusted, so they won't take up so much space when you hover over a tabstack with a lot of tabs.
-
@raystanz Try reducing the UI Zoom a little.
I managed to fit five columns of thumbnails instead of four on my 1200x1600 by reducing the UI Zoom from 110% to 105%. However, I prefer 110% as I find that fits best for the Speed Dial.
-
Maybe would be a workaround to it

I agree! It would be nice to have a 'size' setting in the options menu that controls the thumnail size for the Tab Stack preview.
I think that they are way too big right now. If I had the option I'd decrease the size to 50% or even less

I think that the tab stacks preview should be scrollable, and that it really should not be displayed on top of the tab bar. It is quite a hassle to get out of the preview - I always click on the scroll bar when I accidentally hover over a big tab stack.
-
@jumpsq There are a few ways to escape from that trap:
- Move the mouse cursor to a single tab
- Move the mouse cursor to the new tab button
- Right-click to show the context menu.

Here's my feature request to have a Opera12-Like peview of stacked thumbnails:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27461/improve-tab-stack-thumbnail-previews -
I'd love this
Maybe a resizing feature could be add in settings > tabs. -
@Pesala Well, there is no next tab where the cursor could be moved to, but opening the context menu works. It should not look like this in the first place, though.
-
@jumpsq Where is your tab bar? Is it at the side?
-
@Pesala No, it's on top. It only happens when there is no space left on the bottom for new tabs.
-
@jumpsq I see the problem if I open more than 32 Tabs in a Stack on my 1920x1080 monitor @ 105% UI Zoom:
Smaller previews would make them less recognisable; a scroll bar would make them less usable.
How about opening fewer tabs, or breaking large stacks into two? Even a bus should have a limit to the number of passengers it is allowed to carry.

What makes you believe that a scroll bar would make a high number of thumbnails lesser usable than the current solution?
Opera12 solved the problem with a sensible sized box with scrollable thumbnails. A perfect solution IMHO. -

@jumpsq Although fewer than 14% of users open more than 100 tabs there is no doubt that Jon and the Vivaldi Team want to cater for those who use lots of tabs. However, using lots of tabs gives rise to many problems. If you want to stack more than 30 tabs, you will have to use work-arounds or face accessibility issues.
@goedl Having to scroll to access tabs slows down access to previews that are not displayed. Reducing the size of tabs will work up to the point that the thumbnails become indistinguishable.
Only 10 upvotes for this request indicates that it is not something that affects many users. It may be years before this gets attention, as there are over 2,000 feature requests, some with over 100 upvotes. I am just saying, if you must use large stacks, look for workarounds. I suggest breaking large stacks into two. Better would be to save sessions and open only the tabs that you need now.

I (have to) agree that according to the number of upvotes this is a minor issue for many.
Scrolling would not slow down access because it only comes into play at a certain larger number of thumbnails which currently can not be accessed at all. Thanks to @jumpsq for submitting it as a bug.

The sizing could also reuse the system used for speed dials (tiny|small|default|large|huge) if a free resize (chosen pixel size) is too much problematic.
