Mark Tab as Important
-
I have a lot of tabs opened on the right, but I'd like to mark some of them as important. For example, right-click the mouse on the tab and check "mark as important." Then this tab could show an exclamation mark or star on the left.
Then I could easily find important tab. Now it takes some time.
So when we can have a lot of tabs open - it is very good!
But let's make some of them distinguished -
@qwer0 Currently, you could simply pin the tabs. Set a shortcut in Settings, Keyboard, Tabs to make it quicker to pin and unpin tabs.
Pinning tabs also prevents them from being closed, which I assume is very useful for important tabs.
-
@pesala its not about closing - Im not closing tabs so easily Therefore when Im having a lot of tabs opened for few months - I'd like to have 2-3 of them looking a bit different to easily find it among 50 others
-
@qwer0 Pinned tabs do look different to others. They collapse and move to the left of the tab bar.
-
@Pesala - my wish was to see tab in its place, not moved or collapsed. Just marked and looking differently. Easy to find among others. Not moved because when I find this one, there may be other in next place related to this one so I can do something faster.
Thanks! -
An integrated solution into the tab bar may be to play with the tab width, precisely the shrinkness coefficient of the tab. I suggested an automatic solution that could be forced manually also finaly.
This solution runs only when the tabs are streched, but this is when they are a lot that one become difficult to find among all the others tabs. -
Another possible solution - mark tabs with color https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/16674/color-a-single-tab-or-tab-group

Hey guys. I've just got an Idea.
It's called Control Highlight to Mark/Hilight important and relevant tabs.
The purpose of this idea, is:
-
Fuction as an alternate to bookmarks, in the sense of recording or taking notes of stuff that are as important to you as bookmarks (in which i believe, bookmarks are general important stuff that you want to take notes on later so you can see it later) so, function it as an alternate to bookmarks that you also record important stuff you see, but that you are currently working for in the period of now.
-
Help Vivaldi Users being able to highlight the pages they are working on, in the present times, so that they are not lost in hundreds of thousands of pages
-
Help Vivaldi Users to have a more clearer perspective, of what they are working on or that is relevant for them in the current day they are browsing the internet...
-
Allow for a more clear clarification, on what is useful for you that you found in the day, when browsing the internet, so you can choose better what to bookmark and what to not.
-
Help a lot Vivaldi Users to not feel lost in hundreds of pages they don't know what is relevant for them or not
-
Economizing time (!) in making the daily decision between "This is relevant for me now and this is not"
-
Organizing your current tabs in sections, with descriptions, just like "Work" or "Stuff X (that i am working on)" "Videos X (That i am seeing now)" and so on...
-
When a group of relevant tags for you in the moment,
bookmarkedHighlighted in the single and same category that you where working on, do not become relevant for you anymore... -
You can simply know, due to the relevance of what you where working on, that X tabs are not relevant for you now OR that they utterly lost importance, so you can trash or delete them already.
-
Easily know what tabs are unimportant for you, in the end and in the middle of your browsing sessions, which is unvaluable and priceless.
-
Easily note, at the pinch of a button, anything with minimal importance or relevance you find in the day., just to analyze in the browsing session end and delete/erase it.
*Organize yourself better, lowering the number of tabs open in any given time (whiteout having to close or analyze them one by one) ((The important one tabs you already know, the rest is irrelevant))
-
At the pinch of a button, note anything you find interesting or relevant in the day, so that you can work on it later, know what tabs are important for you, or simply
-
Delete all the unimportant stuff there is in your session, by the end of the day whiteout much thought (you will note what is important)
-
Function as a epic complementary feature to the "Delete all tabs" mechanism from Vivaldi's tab (So you don't delete anything you might or could've use later, or forget.)
-
Easy to use, nice to use, just press Control Highlight and the page is already highlighted. Intended for complementary use with Bookmarks,
-
Note what is important in the day, while the Bookmarks notes what is important in general and later on.
-
It will be good if Vivaldi made a video explaining of the importance of Bookmarks to be used as means to note everything you find of usefull in the day by the internet, so you either
A) Could show others
B ) Take it as a reference later on (if you ever will)
C) Remind yourself of interesting things you learned in the past
D) Or simply remember of what useful things you learned in the past?
Who knows!
Anyway...
These are just some pros of this feature.
So, the feature is just like:
- Create a "Mark" who will highlight tabs (it could be a new colour, or it could be a symbol, such as "cntrl H" (standing for Control Highlight) or simply a tab written Highlithed on it
1.b) The mark could be also an enlarged, widen tab who has a different look (something special like ornamentation, some strands who knows? Or simply a slghtly wider tab whit some colour effects, would look nice.)
1.c) Vivaldi chooses on this one.
-
Get the mark to be linked to a specific keyboard command (intended for constant use, so it has to be something very nice and tiddy to press upon) ((I recommend control H for the people to remember well and for it to look cooler)) (((If Vivaldi want's to consider this, they could try to replace the other potential command who has that keybind to another thing they want to consider. I think it is possible?)))
-
Allow users to mark the tabs constantly, using Control H + 123 or whatever other number, functioning also as a complimentary of Double Tabs settings
-
When a tab is marked, you could group these tabs in specific named groups. Such as "Work" highlighted tabs, or "videos i am watching" highlighted tabs or whatevs.
-
When a highlight is made, it is automatically written "Highlight group 1", which you can also rename to whatever important or minimally important thing you've found.
-
Once this is done, the users can simply select their highlights and enjoys the benefits, all listed above, by knowing what is their priority (what their working on) and deleting/erasing anything else that is not their priority (irrelevant tabs)
This is done, by the process i imagined of use of these Mark/Highlgihted tabs:
- Somebody finds something minimally or more on interesting on the internet
Oh nice, gotta note it.
"Highlight"
Group highlight one: This one.
Oh i found another relevant thing.
Highlight.
Choice: Group one, or two?
I choose two.
Ctrl H + 2
Puff.
New double tab or whatever with an extra highlight!
Then you can organize what is interesting for you in the day WITH those highlights.
Then we go to process two
- Browsing session. Many tabs open. Many things are not highlighted (because they are not interesting)
2.a) Ok, im going to delete unhighlighted tabs.
2.b) Click "Delete all un-highlighted tabs.
2.c) All pages you are not working on are gone.
All relevant pages, are for you, in your browsing session screen.
More clearness, less cluster!
Less time browsing on screens.
What about guys, I like it!
What are your thoughts?

@Velorace I think your post is way too long for a feature request. At first glance, it looks much the same as:
-
@Pesala Well... It's not. It's entierly different...
I can edit it and try to put it on a more clear way, if it is too long then...
I will see what i can do then.
-
@Pesala Hi Pesala! I've just updated it but i think it is marked as spam? What are your thoughts?
