Themes: Own Start Page Images and Window Background Images
-
Add the option to choose your own background images in the Themes.
For example: If I have selected a color combination of red and blue, so I want image on background with a red boat at blue sea. And in another theme with color combination of orange and dark blue, I want a background of a sunset on the savanna.
Simple, color themes match with the color of the background image.
UPDATE:
After implementation of custom Window Background, @AltCode requested possibility to Attach window background images to themes o I updated the Title of this request because, his request was tagged as Duplicate. -
Given the new Window Background Images introduced in this last run of snapshots, it would be useful to allow these to be scheduled as part of themes as well as start page images.
-
@lonm Yes, this is also on the plan. I talked about this with Henrik, but who knows when it will be...
-
@AltCode, @becm Themes, Window Background, Start Page Image - this all will be implemented together and improved in new Themes managment. I talked about this with Henrik internally, and he likes this idea.
In my original Request I mentioned only Sheduled themes, but now there is more options and customizations in themes, and more will be in the future. But initially idea was set your own custom images to specific themes.
-
@cheve11e_191 Since you updated your thread to incorporate the request made by @AltCode I moved your reply to that duplicate thread here, and deleted the duplicate thread, which had no upvotes.
-
@lonm By start page, do you mean the speed dial background image? If so, I would love to see it implemented in the future.
-
Now Vivaldi theme can be synced with system light/dark theme and it's awesome. Many thanks to developers.
But the only thing that remains to be switched manually in Vivaldi is the speed dial background. Because dark theme with a light speed dial background (and vice versa) looks weird.
So it would be great if speed dial backgrounds could be attached to themes.Alternative and simpler solution - just add option to turn off speed dial background. In this case theme background color could be used for speed dial background

Hi ! I see that this post is getting quite old, and I was looking to have an image as a background for new pages that matches up with the head of the browser (where the tabs etc are). Will it be implemented one day or have this been abandonned ? (Or I didn't understood the initial post and it has been implemented, just not the way I imagined)
-
@Floriane This request is to associated different Start Page Images with different themes.
You can already select the same image for the Start Page as you do in Settings, Appearance, Window Background image. However, they do not line up.
-
@Pesala I saw that but the Window Background Image only appears in the Speed Dial page (and yes I am aware that it is a different setting), and it never appears somewhere else
My question was also about having the background image in the full window (up to the tabs etc lines on top of the screen) ?
-
@Floriane You said you are aware that it is a different setting, but I just want to make sure. Using the settings below, I can have a window background image that shows up regardless of the page content. If these settings don't help, then there could be a problem with your version of Vivaldi. Make sure you are on the latest stable version:
Vivaldi: 3.0.1874.38 (Stable channel)
The setting for the Speed Dial background is here:
Settings
βStart Page
βStart Page Background
The setting for Window background is here:
Settings
βAppearance
βWindow Background Image
βShow Window Background Image
- You also might need to uncheck
Blend Window Accent Color with Image
, as depending on the colors, it could be difficult to see the window background image.

I want to change start page image with Scheduled Themes feature.
Is there a mod script that changes the start page background image according to the current / active scheduled theme?
-
I have the tab bar transparency setting active for a long time now. I also use vertical tabs (on the right of the browser).
Recently I activated the theme scheduler to automatically alternate between dark theme at night and light theme during daytime. However, it became really hard to find a decent background image that will work with both themes.I think that the background image should either be schedulable together with the theme or, what makes even more sense, for the background image to be a part of the theme... Personally I hardly ever see the speed dial page, but because of the tab bar transparency I see (part of) the background image all the time I'm using the browser. So it's not like they're that independent from each other...
-
I still have this problem.
My schedule:
Background does not change when theme is changed:
-
Please, please add this feature. It it so annoying to be working with a dark theme at night, but then still getting a bright flash in your eyes whenever you open a new tab. Conversely, a dark background all the time is also not a good solution, because early in the day, light is great. (That's why the theme scheduler is so great β as you all know.)
With all the medical research on the relation of light exposition and sleep quality, it would be so nice if Vivaldi's theme system were to fully support "bright in the morning, dark at night" across all large interface elements. And, of course, it would look cooler.

P pafflick moved this topic from Themes on
-
This is now possible with the improved Themes feature in Vivaldi 5.0 Stable.
-
And this is why Vivaldi is the best browser. Many thanks to the team!
