Option to detect mobile touch icons instead of thumbnails

@LonM I see no change here. If I add a new speed dial, I still get a useless auto-generated thumbnail of the page, e.g. on the Vivaldi Bug report page.

Where is the Mobile Touch icon?

@Pesala It is up to the site to provide one. For example, vivaldi.net has a nicely designed one, but vivald.com does not. If vivaldi can't find an appropriate image, it falls back to the normal method

There is a Chrome extension called infinity new tab which provides cliackable icons in place of thumbnails whenever we launch a new tab.

By default, it picks up the favicon of the website, but we can customize it using our own image, change background, etc.

It can stack a lot of icons in a single screen. It also has the facility to add multiple swipable screens.

Is this proposal a similar one?

Also, how do I vote for this feature? I didn't see any upvote/downvote buttons here...

@LonM Please tell me this is a joke and this "feature" is not actually done for. Out of 24 pages on my speed dial page not a single one has an icon. Even sites like youtube, facebook, gmail or google translate.

How did you do?

I create the speed dial thumbnails myself, when I see the Facebook icon in Firefox I would change this immediately.

@mib2berlin check out what happens when you reload the speeddial thumbnail... Suddenly your nice icon is gone due to VB-79298 "Logo thumbnails for speeddials can only be set by removing and readding the SD"

Yep, I never reload speed dials if the have an icon.

Yes, but... its aspect ratio is not suitable. All that's left of the word "forum" are a few annoying pixels.

The bugs mentioned by mib2berlin and WildEnte are still present. The image is only added to the thumbnail if you create the bookmark in that very specific way and if you reload the thumbnail, it resets again to the page screenshot.

Hi, the report was updated several times but it has a low priority.
Add a custom image and never reload it is the only way to get good looking thumbnails
This feature request have many votes but it is not even tagged as NICE TO HAVE, that won't happen, I'm afraid.

In another thread I added the path to the default icons, may you can use some of the 270 images.
