Did all the passwords for sync get reset?
I've tried entering what I believe to be my sync password and it won't accept it.Afaik sync is currently up, and I'm not getting any connection errors.
-
Are you getting a message to enter a new password?

Hi guys,
today i logged in to my laptop with a fresh OS, and I tried to sync vivaldi.
It asked me to put a "new" encrytion password, that was weird but I did put the same one I had before, and then clicked sync all data.
It shows success but it downloaded nothing, no passwords, no bookmarks, no addons etc.
I'm panicking because all my important passwords were there.
Stupid me panickly went to my phone and synced there too, and forgot that all my passwords were on the phone even if it wasn't logged in, so phone ended having the data as my pc which is "nothing": no passwords, no addons etc. What is going on!! where is my data ?
-
@Matman I had the same thing and it said that the old password was not more than 12 characters - so I was forced to create a new one. Is it something like that for you too?

On 11/12 I formatted my PC and I didn't know that Vivaldi was having Sync problems, today this problem was resolved and I had to create a new password, does this mean that I lost all my desktop stuff that I had before formatting?
Yes, if you created a new Sync password, your old data is likely lost because the Sync data is encrypted with the old password. Without the old password, the data cannot be accessed or recovered.

All my passwords are gone I have logout and logged in to my vivaldi.com account and Enabled sync all data.. Passwords are all gone. Please help asap
Thank you in advance -

Data was miraculously preserved on Android, but nothing is syncing with desktop version (even if desktop says otherwise).

Wow!
Talk about an elaborate system!
Suppose this is the explanation:
-
Check on both devices
-
@Zalex108 - just noticed notes starting to trickle through to desktop.
-
@danielson
You can force it clicking on Trigger Getupdates -
Just back from errands and it looks like history and notes are the only synced items. No extensions, no passwords on desktop yet.

I couldn't find the location to seek technical support or submit a form on the website, so I'm posting this here.
I've been using Vivaldi for many years and have never encountered any issues. However, starting from a few months ago, account synchronization began to act up. A few months back, all of my browsing history mysteriously disappeared. Today, when I tried to log into my Vivaldi account on a new device to sync my data, nothing happened. Then, I checked the sync results on my phone, and after tapping sync, all of my data on the phone was overwritten with blank data. Throughout this process, I did not press any buttons to reset the account or clear data. Now, all of my browser settings, interface customizations, bookmarks, browsing history, and notes are gone. I want to know if there is any way to recover these, and why this issue occurred?
-
@abcmyk Yeah same. The reason I hate Brave browser is this. Thought Vivaldi works as a backup, Because previously, it worked as backup as I have reinstalled vivaldi on all devices at the same time
-
That's so unfortunate. It hurts people so badly when they relied on Sync as a backup. :|
Sync is very convenient to get started quickly when clean installing Vivaldi. I have used it several times in the past and it is very convenient.
I have a multiboot system so I have something close to backup and that typically keeps me afloat. When doing a clean install of Windows (I used to have two Insider builds alongside stable (currently only one Insider build coz my hardware is getting too old)) I always make a backup of the User/local and User/Roaming folders.
The Vivaldi Sync Help is upfront about what it is:
Important! Sync is not meant to be used as a data backup service. If the data is not stored locally on any devices, we can’t guarantee you’ll be able to restore the data on a later date.

VIVALDI is set as my default browser on Ubuntu, and I have a Vivaldi account active. I only have 2 active tabs opened in VIVALDI in Ubuntu, nothing stacked, just 2 tabs side-by-side.
I then install VIVALDI on my Android phone, connect with the same VIVALDI account. And I use the default settings for Sync, ie. everything should sync, INCLUDING currently Open tabs.
Sync works (example: bookmarks are synced) however I do not see my currently opened tabs from Ubuntu, on my Android device. Android just shows me the default tab, nothing more.
I am using the latest version of all software (Ubuntu, Vivaldi, Android).
I also have VIVALDI on a Windows device, which does have some stacked tabs, however tabs don't sync with that device either. It just seems that VIVALDI does not sync any tab for me.Is this a known bug ? How am I supposed to get my tabs to sync "out-of-the-box" ?

@ppvi "Open Tabs not synced" happend for me → Android,, but worked → Windows.

I've read this whole thread and I have to comment on the unpleasant behavior of the Vivaldi team.
The problem is not that you shouldn't treat synchronization as a backup. That everyone (?) should know this or could read about it on the help page (although the question is why anyone would look there if they didn't need help before).
The problem is that the Vivaldi team deleted all my synchronization data from the server, without any question, without any warning and without a single word of apology. Which caused me and many other people, more or less serious problems. Which could have been easily avoided if only we had been informed about it before the data disappeared from the synchronization server.
And instead of apologizing and admitting that they did something wrong, they pretend that everything is fine, when it obviously isn't.
I'm disappointed and this is not what I expected from the Vivaldi team...
