"Open in New Window button" to Workspaces list [Feature Request]
-
Hello
I would like to have an “Open in a New Window” button in Workspaces list, in the one that opens from the top right corner. Here is a quick mock-up of what I mean :
I almost always open Workspaces to new window, so having to do that via right click menu adds extra steps.
Other good enhancements would be to have an option to open Workspaces in new windows by default, and/or use the Middle Mouse click to open in new window.
I also wonder if it would be easy to customize that list to add the button. I did some experiments with customization earlier, but have forgotten most of it.

Exactly same here.
Workspaces is a super handy feature and I use it a lot. Thanks to the Vivaldi team for bringing it to us.
But the main inconvenience which I encounter with it is that I frequently open workspaces in new windows and clicking right button and choosing to open the workspace in a new window is a bit tedious. I would love to have a button "open in new window" next to each workspace in the workspace popover. I suggest to add such a button with an icon depicting a window with a plus sing in it.Here's a mockup with a different icons:

Does anyone know if this could be achieved with some customization?

I switch between different workspaces using shortcuts (Ctrl+Shift+2, Ctrl+Shift+3 ...) and can open the workspace menu with Ctrl+Shift+0.
If workspace 2 is open and I would like to open workspace 3, my current approach is to open a new window (Ctrl+N) and then switch to that other workspace (Ctrl+Shift+3).
This always moves the empty tab to the previous workspace which is not a big problem but somehow annoying.
It would be much easier to open the workspace menu (Ctrl+Shift+0) and then hit Ctrl+Enter to open that workspace in a new window. If there was a button to open in a new window, I could also select the right workspace, hit Tab and then Enter to click that button.

Hi, is it not much easier to use the context menu, right click > Open in a new Window?
The chance to get this implemented is low if a way to do it is already there.
If the context menu entries would be reachable with shortcuts it would be ideal for keyboard users.Cheers, mib

Hi, is it not much easier to use the context menu, right click > Open in a new Window?
Yes, this already works via context menu. On my system, I can reach the context menu via Shift+F10.
So, using the context menu, my keyboard sequence would be
- Ctrl+Shift+0 - Show Workspace Menu
- Arrow keys to navigate to the right workspace
- Shift+F10 - open the context menu
- Alt+O - Open in a New Window
But similarily to @kHellstr, I also almost always open workspaces to a new window, so why the additional steps, if I could just CTRL+Enter at step 3? (or CTRL+click / middle click via mouse, as suggested). Additionally, even most keyboard users do not know how to open a context menu on their system
For me, it's much faster to
- Ctrl+N
- Ctrl+Shift+{workspace number}
But as I noted, this always puts the empty open tab from the new window to the end of the tabs on the previously open workspace.

+1
It would be very useful to open a workspace in a new window instead of the current one. Not even ctrl + left click on the workspace does this currently.
