Vivaldi 7 | New Layout & User's Disagreements
-
@SebSebsensen ah yes, the age-old classic "I'll take my ball and go home" response. my foresight did not account for that potential outcome.
just remember that people gave you a chance to discuss things with your words like a rational human being, you just didn't like being evaluated for the things that you say.
next time, if you'd like to have more success in basic discussion, check out the "feedback checklist" outlined by Brene Brown.

In general
Hi,
I've just tested on a Clean Profile.
Changing the 1st option on the Guide turns the round tabs to flat again.
It compacts many UI elements as well.To revert it seems something easy, being it's possible on Vivaldi.
Another thing is that the users has to search for a "fix" to get the previous desing.
This would be more uncomfortable in some cases.For lot of tabs in a row would look weird, but there's all kind of users and there's already the Workspaces, so this would met many different options for many different users.
The AutoUpdate,
Not sure whether informs about the changes or just the manual update.
There would be read it and also allows to wait or search information before install it.BTW,
To run Profile back ups of Vivaldi and also any other important software, is something to be aware when getting any Digital device despite seems something not globally advised.As a reminder

This can be a problem for many if not most people, since it seems like most people don't like to read anymore. My parents called me to set it back as before, still have to go there XD (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/102203/redesigned-experience-as-theme)

Yes,
When managing other's computers the action time is sometimes more limited than in just one's.At least is a setting that can be reverted so should be just an anecdote
-
@okurok Mate! You can just revert it back into the settings!!
go to Settings >> Appearance >> Window Appearance.
and change it to the compact and here you go.
I am not getting how you're claiming that vivaldi forced it .--
ModEdit: Convert All caps to Normal case
-
@Archit2006
I reverted it back. It was the first thing i did after this update.I don't have the problem with Vivaldi creating new customizations, i have the problem with my settings being messed with after updates.
You don't need to CAPS everything, i can clearly read it even with proper typing.
-
@Archit2006 I think the setting is not really clear for some users.
(*) Old UI
( ) Modern UI
would be better for usability. -

Hmm.. There is a basic problem with this update, and it is that it needed a post explaining how to revert the changes that it applied.
When I installed Vivaldi, more than a year ago, it guided me through a lot of cutomization options.
This update should have had that. It would have saved a lot of headached."Things have changed! Choose a new theme"
"We added new visual options for tabs. Would you like to use the new style or keep the classic?"And so on, you get the idea.
-
@Ganuza07 Yes, unexpereinced users should get a guidance page after such serious upgrade.
//EDIT:
Just a page with the new UI and click a button if they want to use it or have the old/compact layout. -
@DoctorG I don't think I'm an unexperienced user. Well, I'm probably more of a moderate-experienced-user. And I don't think this has anything to do with how experienced you are.
The change for me was a HUGE "no-no" at first glance and it reminded me of "clown-colours" (some call it modern colours) THEN I looked into the settings (fiddled with those) before I went to the forum and found that there was a setting (somewhat hidden) named "Corner Rounding".
Having this new look is absolutely not a bad thing since it's obvious many people like it. I think the implementation went a bit wrong due to peoples preferences. For me the new look is absolutely not professional and off-putting. Vivaldi-team should take it as a lesson, and may I suggest to make it a theme in the future and not force upon update but give the user a notification where they can try out the new "experience".

vivaldi:welcome
.
At the moment, this is just for New Profiles.Maybe in the future there's an extra guide for New Big Changes.

Yes, needed.

This change in the UI was accompanied by new selectors that control the tabs:
class="tab-wrapper extended" class="button-off"
In addition, the title of the tab is now associated with
[id*="tab"].tab-wrapper.extended
and not with.tab

So, I've got my Vivaldi to mostly look like it did before. However, the audio icon on tabs is constantly drawing my attention.
I've never really spent much thought on that icon before, does anyone know how it's different now? Was it animated before?
It's really annoying that my attention is drawn to the tab bar all the time. -
@Laudian said in Vivaldi 7 | New Layout User Disagreement:

The icon is as in old Vivaldi 6.9 animated when sound plays.
If you need UI patch, please ask at https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/52/modifications.

I left Chrome for Vivaldi because i disliked all the UI change(among other thing).
Its a bit infuriating for Vivaldi to seem so disconnected from what user like, and just play follow the leader.
When Windows 11 came out with all the rounded corner, a load of article from tech blog and forum post pointed out how bad of a choice it was.
I appreciate that you at least have advanced option to revert it back.
But maybe have a better updater, that let us op-in, in UI change in the futur.

@mantafloppy
Hi, check here if you want the older grumpy design back.But I am with you, this update was to invasive, Microsoft is well known to change user defaults since Windows XP.
Vivaldi should not do the same.Cheers, mib

@Zalex108 I detest changes that are forced upon me, even more so, when there is no information about it, and no easy obvious way to go back to previous UI look, and even more so, if said changes takes up more screen real-estate than before.. who thinks its a good idea, to take up more screen space for the tab bar, huge borders that make no sense.. who woke up this morning and thought, yeah, thats a good idea? i guess that person is devoid of connection to the rest of humanity..

@Kizi86
Hi, I don't like it too but 20 pixel in height and 0 pixel in width should not really make any difference in usability.
It only looks ugly.Cheers, mib
