youtube pages freezes, then reverts to blank pages with icon in center

@tckosvic Tab crashes can happen by extensions or Vivaldi issues with GPU or low ressources.
Fo extensions try:
Remove all extensions
Add extension
Reload Youtube tab
Check if "Dead Bird" tab happens
Add next extension
Reload Youtube tab
Check if "Dead Bird" tab happens
And so on, until dead bird happens, the you caught the extension causing the crash -
The dead bird is occurring sporadically. I understand the elimination process you are describing.
Will take a while to work through all the extensions.In the meantime, I would like to hear if others are seeing this.

@tckosvic
Hi, I never had a dead bird on Opensuse Linux open a Youtube tab.
You can test extensions to keep all from loading at start before you disable one for one.
Start Vivaldi withvivaldi --disable-extensions
in a terminal.
If the bird is gone then start Vivaldi without the switch and disable 50% of your extension, test, if it work it is one of the other 50%.
Disable 50% of the other extensions and so forth.
Always restart Vivaldi before you test.Cheers, mib

@Rohan77
Hi, no issues here on Opensuse Linux with Vivaldi or other browsers. YT Vanced is an Android app or exists an extension?
Did you tried start without extensions?
Check this in a Guest Profile.Cheers, mib

@Rohan77 , I started this thread after seeing what you also reported.
It is important to finding a cause/solution that you see this on other browsers and not just on vivaldi.This fact eliminates browsers and extensions and says it is a youtube problem.
What linux OS are you using?tom kosvic

Today, I got the "dead bird" on home page/espn sports scores. Wasn't even looking at this page when it happened.; saw it later. First time on any page but youtube. Memory is not an issue (18g out of 32g). Neither is disk space.
I understand about extensions possible involvement but I use these often and eliminating them for something that happens every couple of days is a big imposition. My extensions have been in use for a year or so before this started happening.
I will move back to firefox if this happens frequently.

logwatch reports a vivaldi segmentation fault in kernel.
I think it is indicating the time but am not clear how to get back to the log and time. I am working on it.
Info below:
c(base) tom@mydesktop: ~ $ sudo logwatch ################### Logwatch 7.7 (07/22/22) #################### Processing Initiated: Mon Sep 23 09:20:52 2024 Date Range Processed: yesterday ( 2024-Sep-22 ) Period is day. Need ideas on how to take this further. tom kosvic

@tckosvic
Hi, check.config/vivaldi/Crash Reports/completed/
if Vivaldi create a crash log at this time.
A UI freeze could be also a crash, Vivaldi just not close.
Then create a bug report and attach the .dmp file.
The developer can analyze the file and often know why it crash.Cheers, mib
-
I have maybe 50 crashes in ~/.config/vivaldi/Crash Reports/completed
Will do as you suggest.
Having problem extracting reports: Why does vivaldi have directories with "spaces" in directory names, e.g., Crash(space)Reports and try to run code on linux. This is a windows thing and doesn't play well in linux.
First thing I would do would be to correct all the directory and file names in the whole app to replace spaces.Thanks for your ideas. I will keep it moving. Maybe send all crash reports to bug report central.

@tckosvic
Hi, MacOS and Windows users are used to use spaces in file names and Linux can handle it easily.
I prefer underline in names too but don't change the file/folder names in the Vivaldi user directory, please.
I guess the next update will fail then.
About the bug report, I guess the crashes has the same reason, maybe add the last 5 or so in a bug report.Cheers, mib

You're a kde guy. Go into konsole terminal and try to cd into Crash Reports.
-
@tckosvic
Yes but since 20 Years, tab is your friend.
cd .config/vivaldi/Crash\ Reports/pending/

I was unaware of that trick. Don't deal in windows much at all anymore.
Have windows as dual boot and also in a vm but only do an update on those once a month or so. Been using openSUSE for going on 20 years, I think. Use leap 15.6 but have TW in a vm to run/compile most recent software. Mate desktop.
Linux graphical file manager does handle the spaces with no problem.
But I would still get rid of the spaces. You never know what can go on down deep in a complex program.Did get the bug report in with a crash report.
Pleasure talking with you. tom kosvic

@tckosvic
I have to, all my customers use Windows, anyway I use the tool is faster.
Please add the bug report number VB- here, I can check and add some tags and so forth.Cheers, mib
-
Looks like I accidentally put it in twice. VB-109766, and VB-109767 from the return email(s).
-
@tckosvic @mib2berlin VB-109767 is marked as a duplicate.
-
Just for humor, you need to change your signature blurb from Opensuse to openSUSE. That is the official way to write it. There are some people on openSUSE forum that will get on you.

Just got another "dead bird" icon. This time on youtube. About a week after last one.
