Just got another "dead bird" icon. This time on youtube. About a week after last one.

Just got another dead bird on vivaldi/espn/ncaaf/scores/gamecast. About 3 days after previous one. Again on a page where an active download was running.

No input from the bug report

Hi, you get only news from the bug tracker if the bug is fixed and published in a stable release.
At moment the report is not confirmed, and I cant confirm it.
No dead birds on any page including YT and sometimes I use it for hours.

I just got another dead bird. This time on youtube video. About an hour after the previous one that occurred on espn. Vivaldi is up 24 hrs per day. I never shut down my machine or vivaldi.

Frequency is increasing.

I think I will clear the vivaldi cache and see if that makes a difference.

Hi, how do you update your system and Vivaldi without restart?
The last Vivaldi update was at September 25.
If I am not using something for more than a few hours I shutdown everything, even my router, except my refrigerator.
More serious, is the memory footprint stable over time?

Linux systems should be rebooted as soon as a new kernel is received from the distribution and installed.

I have started threads a couple of times stating that vivaldi locks up with dead bird icon sporadically in sites showing videos, e.g., youtube, espn.

I caught some messages in system log just after a dead bird incidient happened. They are below. Hope someone can diagnose this as it is very very annoying.

That is the internal of Vivaldi extension for Picture-in-Picture.

To check which of your extension is interfering please disable all extensions in extension manager and step-by-step enable one, check video page, enable next, check page until you get the broken display. The last enabled extension is the culprit.

I have vivaldi repo in my openSUSE repo liist. https://repo.vivaldi.com/archive/rpm/x86_64

Vivaldi downloads a new version as needed when I do a system update (nearly daily) from the repo along with updates from the other repos and then reloads itself.

Seems like a new version comes every week or so.
Currently installed is: 7.0.3495.15 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)

I have only 3 extensions installed:
bitwarden password manager
purevpn
simple translate

I have no picture-in-picture extension as was refered to as indicated in the error messages from the log.

bitwarden extension and purevpn extension have been installed for a couple of years. Long before the dead bird issue started.

I don't remember when translate was added.

Of course an update to one of these extensions may instigate the dead bird problem

As i interpreted the Vivaldi bug tracker entry, it is a issue with JavaScript V8 of Chromium core and can only be fixed upstream.

Just for definition, by "sporadic", I mean that I am seeing that the dead bird happens most often within a 2 day period. I don't believe I go beyond 2 days w/o seeing a dead bird. The occurrence frequency is increasing over time.

Bitwarden and purevpn are necessary for my daily work efforts and a big inconvenience if I disable them.

Upstream means here, error in Chromium code which is used by Vivaldi.

Does it mean that the external extension caused the internal error?

@DoctorG Try disbling the PiP button in Settings > Webpages.

Restart the browser.

You can still access PiP from the context menu on YT for instance.

I have seen other references in this forum to dead bird issue (freezing tab). But, am I only one seeing this problem, i.e., related to Youtube and ESPN videos?

Just trying to see if this is solely my issue or whether others are seeing this also.

I will try another site that primarily shows videos to see if this site also freezes and report back.
