Vivaldi tab animations stop responding, navigation impossible.
-
I looked for a similar topic but didn't find anything. When using Vivaldi, I've recently started to notice that I will sometimes click a link (mouse wheel to open a new tab within the same stack) but the tab animations freeze. The new page will load, but the tab bar locks up and won't show any new tabs and if I close a tab, it won't disappear either. This makes navigating impossible. I can't reproduce the error consistently, it appears random. This will usually fix itself by closing the window and reopening, but just today it immediately reoccurred. When I reopen the window (set to reopen last session) all of the actions I preformed after the "freeze" are there in the tab bar - any closed tabs are gone and any new tabs are actually shown. It's as if the tab bar stops processing changes, but the rest of the browser keeps going as normal. I've only noticed this behavior within the past month or 2.

The problem has gotten significantly worse. I had to stop using "Compact" tab management as I can't be restarting my browser every minute (not an exaggeration, the problem almost immediately reoccurs). I doubt it has anything to do with it, but this seems to happen with TeamDynamix Helpdesk version 11.8. I will report back if it still occurs with Two-Level tab management. For me Compact management is the most efficient so this is frustrating.

I haven't updated Vivaldi since originally posting this so everything below applies to the original post:
Version: 6.5.3206.59 Earliest occurrence (roughly): 12/18/2024 December 18th, 2024 OS Version: Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.3930)
Clean site data was my first troubleshooting step after restarting the browser.
I've also checked for Windows OS file corruption as well as file system corruption, both checks came back clean. When I go to the service worker page, the only options I have are:
Unregister or Start
OR
Stop, Inspect, or Unregister
I do not see "clean" as an option. All flags are set to default (verified, I did not have to reset any of them, they were already set to default).
Update since last post: Since switching to Two-Level tab management the problem hasn't reoccurred.
I should maybe add that I've been in IT for 12 years at this point, both as Helpdesk Technician and a more advanced Network & Systems Technician, so if there's any more advanced steps I can take or if getting full diagnostic data would be helpful, please let me know.

@AndrewVCCC
Hi, Unregister meant remove.
You can do this in on rush with remove browsing data from the tools menu and this settings. You maybe don't need to remove Cache and Storage but Application Cache.
Cheers, mib

Another Update:
I can confirm this issue is also present on my home system, which has a browser version of 5.6.2867.62
This may be the version where the issue started. I know it's not up to date (I'm not asking for support with my home system), but I highly suspect this is a bug so I wanted to include the information.
