Manifest V3, webRequest, and ad blockers

@xanathon Much of what you type out is incoherent. Read the ublock Origin documentation about Youtube’s attempts at stopping adblockers. You need to follow their guidelines strictly to successfully apply the extension and its blocklists. They also point out that all browsers are affected, including Firefox—Youtube’s code is browser agnostic. Think about it this way: Why should Youtube target Chromium browsers? It would be stupid for Google to force users to go with one of their competitors instead.

Thanks for this statement. You probably already know that uBlock Origin does no longer work on Youtube, but does in Firefox, so this looks related to this to me.
Funny enough - my experience is that uBlock origin DOES work in YouTube - but it's Vivaldi's ad-blocker which YouTube now complains about!
So I have clicked the shield in the address bar on YouTube and selected "block trackers", left uBlock origin on and YouTube is fine - no ads, no nag screen about ad blocking.
-
@mossman Likely the youtube adblocking needs some uBO rules which are not supported yet by vivaldi blocker. Not strange at all.
-
I'm still fine with the Vivaldi Blocker + the iFrame Extension. No nags, ads or blockings until now.

This is the link :
" YouTube Anti-Adblock and Ads - October 29, 2023 (Mega Thread)"
It is important to read it to know first hand what the uBO team is doing to solve the YT problem.

Yesterday I had to refresh the uBO filters to get to YouTube on one machine, so I may not entirely know what I'm talking about...

From uBO team in the link above (Reddit):
"YouTube filters are in a list named uBlock filters - Quick fixes. The list updates every 12 hours. It's the only list you might need to update - only if 'this page' says it's fixed, but you're getting the message.
If you're not getting detected. Don't update."

@Catweazle What's this iFrame extension you mentioned?
-
-
@toriigate, see https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/477725-youtube-iframe-adblocker
In Vivaldi you don't need Greasyfork extension to use the script. Download the script (right click on the Install button, save as) in a folder (don't delete). Open the extension page in Vivaldi (Ctrl+Shift+E) in Developer Mode (upper right corner and drag the script on this page to install it.
-
Thanks for both the information and the installation tip
-
@toriigate, this script works very well, I use it using apart only the Vivaldi adblocker, but it has two small drawbacks, YT will not register the videos as viewed and the script does not work very well if you have YT in several tabs.t

@barbudo2005, anyway it's the same, if I remember the video I don't watch it, if I don't remember then it doesn't matter.

Browser with chromium will just die because the dev team lazyly use chromium.
Its a shame because Vivaldi have somes nice things and nice features, but, ad its a big no no, and with a little regret the browser will end in the trashbin.
After manifest v3 will only left firefox and Arc i guess. -
@rrrooouskljdhf, ARC also is Chromium, same as Vivaldi. Don't confuse the possibilities, M3 will be a problem for Chrome user, but not necessarly for Chromium user, only if it's a fork as is, Vivaldi isn't.
