Setting for Number of Closed Tabs to Store
-
@iamjohngalt said in Setting for Number of Closed Tabs to Store:
Might there be a way to keyword search for a closed ( and even an open) tab?
Yes; there is a way to find open tabs.
- Open the Quick Commands dialog (F2)
- Type part of the Page Title of the tab that you are searching
- Click on the search result to display the desire tab (this works to find tabs in other windows too).
-
That's great, Pesala. Thank you!
Is there a way to use it on closed tabs? -
@iamjohngalt No. The best I can offer you is to repeatedly press the first letter of a Page Title when the Closed Tab list is open on the Trash Can. The first nine closed tabs have access keys from 1-9.

I hope the setting for number of "recently closed tabs ", too. Because now too many tabs in this feature. I want to set the number to about 20.

This is quite an old issue, but not solved still, so Id like to BUMP^^

@VivaldiFan137 It is even older than this thread.
I reported as a bug on 7/12/2020.
It is a bug because it is an accessibility issue. The list overflows the window after browsing for an hour or less. Either the list should cascade, or there should be an option to limit the number of closed tabs to store.
Typical usage is to reopen tabs closed in error. Many users would need only 10-20 tabs in the list.
For others, it is a privacy concern, so they would prefer to set it to zero, and automatically hide the trash can. For the same reasons, others would like the list to be cleared on closing the browser.
I can fit about 45 closed tabs on my 1920x1080 landscape monitor without needing to scroll. I think 25 tabs would work for me. That is what it used to be before December 2020.

My Bug report was closed, but I still regard this as a bug, especially as Clear All is not visible when the list is long.

This is an issue that needs to be fixed. Ever since the limit was increased from 25 to 99 closed tabs, I have practically stopped using the feature.
Just give users a setting to choose a value that works for them, and let them disable it and hide the Trash Can by setting the value to zero.

@iamjohngalt One can search within closed tabs in the Windows Panel.
-
I absolutely second this bug report. This long list is so annoying and I never use more than the last 5-10 entries maybe.

The (now useless) trash can can be hidden with some CSS.
/* Remove Trash Can */ .button-toolbar.toggle-trash {display: none;}
Search in the Windows Panel does not find results that are in the trash can, but removing the trash can does not stop the closed tabs being listed in the Windows Panel.
