Need help with cookie popup
-
I need help in solving this relatively new problem on the latest version of Vivaldi on W-10 (updated):
On some websites, when the cookie popup windows comes it flashes for a split second and then in disappears. But the Tab is frozen and I cannot do anything. I do not find the proper settings to prevent this happening.
If I launch a Guest profile session, there is no such problem.
What can I do? Any help appreciated.
Thank you!

@toscana
Hi, first I would try is to disable the Vivaldi ad blocker for this page using the shield icon:Extensions like "I don´t care about cookies" can block pages, too.
-
Thanks, I did that and it did not help.

@toscana
If it work in a guest profile I guess it is an extension cause this.
Can you add 1-2 links to such pages and your Vivaldi version, please? -

@toscana Could be that Vivaldi Blocker's lists named "Remove Cookie Warnings" block you.
You need to disable these list completely in Settings → privacy → Tracker and Ad Blocking → Manage Sources or you disable tracker/ad blocking on the site in address field's shield. -
Thank you DoctorG,
I will try that.Just for my understanding:
- How can that help, if disabling ads and tracking in the lest corner of the URL bar does not?
- In Settings → privacy → Tracker and Ad Blocking I have "block ads and tracking" active, but
in Settings → privacy → Tracker and Ad Blocking → Manage Sources is a kind of white-list. If I add anything to that, it should not block, should it?
Thank you.

I do not know how the popup was created.
If you unblock Tracking and Ads all should be nice after a reload of the page.A URL to such page would be useful to check your issue.

If you need a excepetion, you need to add it to the Exceptions list (above the Hide Sources/Show Sources button).

Hello,
this is one bad link:
With a bit of luck you can see the cookie popup for split second. Then it disappears and Vivaldi freezes.
My Vivaldi version is: 6.1.3035.302 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
But:
I have a number of plug-ins, too. Motivated by what I read here in the forum, I switched them all off. The problem disappeared.
Then I added them by bisection and found the culprit soon:Visual Effects for Google Meet , visual-effects.herokuapp.com
I used it to be able to blur the background in Meet calls.
There seems to be a serious problem with the plug-in.
Thank you for your help.

@toscana
Hi, thank you for the feedback.
Chrome extensions can cause serious issues in Vivaldi but should not crash Vivaldi.
I test the extensions in the latest snapshot for Vivaldi 6.2, and I can reproduce it there, I would ask you to make a bug report.
Only the chip.de tab freeze, not the whole browser, is this correct?For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB-). Thanks.
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.Cheers, mib

Hi mib,
correct: only the Chip tab freezes.
The bug-report reference number is: VB-99505
Thanks a million.

@toscana
Confirmed in the bug tracker.Thank you for the report, mib

@toscana First of all, that's a terrible extension. And it does not "freeze" the tab - it hides the
chip.de
cookie dialog, making it impossible to click it or interact with the page at allThis happens in all browsers I tested with - Chrome, Chromium, Opera.
During install it asks for extra permissions for "Safe-Meeting" - if this is denied or the popup closed, the "issue" won't happen either.
For an extension that's supposed to "help" with only Google Meet, it should not be allowed to run on any other domain than
meet.google.com
. This can be set in the extension details page to only allow it there.
For an extensions that claims to "protect" your privacy it's a very bad choice. It makes a lot of outbound network calls to some shady parked domain.

I would steer clear of this extension. The bug report should be closed as not a Vivaldi issue but a buggy/malware extension.

Thanks Pathduck. I am impressed.
Do I have to close the bug report?

No I think the internal testers can do that
Just be wary of installing extensions in the future, and always test if extensions break websites before blaming the browser
