Workspaces | Benefits?

@Ruarí I have the same issue. I can organise tabs in workspaces, then after closing and re-opening Vivaldi the workspaces exist but are empty of tabs, all of which are in the main window.
-
Hello. I came looking for answers and yeah, I have the exact same bug. I have a lot of tabs, some for reading later, others for investigations and so. I created 5 workspaces to keep everything organized and keep my mind centered on one thing. As I close the Vivaldi window, and re-open it, i get some of the tabs back on the main workspace, which i would hope could be eliminated, but it's stuck with 1 new tab all the time.
I got a way around it. When I close my window, I go to the tab bar and exit Vivaldi, when I open it again, it's all as i left it. But today i closed normally, and opened, some were back on the main workspace, it's never all of them in my case, and i closed it again and opened and i had almost all the tabs in the main workspace. I was looking and it's just random tabs, i don't see a pattern anywhere.
I hope this information helps anyone. It clearly sounds like a bug, and I know Vivaldi will solve it. Have a great day, reader, and thanks for reading until here. Blessings

Gday all
I have the same problem as well: when restarting the browser the tabs all end up in the default 'workspaces' workspace. Startup with last session is enabled.
At least in the new open window they are grouped in the workspace they were in so its possible to select multiple tabs with shift+L-click, R-click and move them to the appropriate workspace.
Love the new Workspaces, looking forward to them remembering where the tabs should go!

also here, but pinned Tabs are going from the several workspaces to the top one
In the picture you see several workspaces, they all included some pinned tabs.
After closing V and starting it again this is the picture
all tabs are in the top workspace the others are empty

@Electra225 This is a common problem. I also have such a bug. Let's wait for fixes from developers

I am, at times, having the same problem. It is not consistent. I am posting with notes about my experience in the hope it will be useful to anyone working on the issue.
For me the problem occurred while trying to convert from using lots of windows to lots of workspaces. It eventually started to save properly. I switched to a window where I had no open workspaces (except the default unnamed WS). I used (Workspaces|New Workspace|New Workspace with 6 tabs) and supplied a name for the workspace. I then quit and restarted Vivaldi. All tabs from all workspaces, including the freshly created one, were now in the top Window of the Windows pane and there were no tabs, not even a start window, in any of the workspaces. I moved two tabs from the window to their appropriate workspace, quit, restarted. The two tabs were back in the first window. I opened each workspace then restarted. Then I moved the two tabs again, quit, restarted, and the tabs correctly remained in the workspace. I opened the workspace of two tabs and then switched back to the default workspace. I then created a new workspace from the 9 tabs of the default workspace (Workspaces|New Workspace|New Workspace with 9 tabs). I switched back to the default workspace (producing a start page), quit, restarted and the fresh workspace was properly restored.

Known bug in stable. Already fixed in snapshot. Hope it will be fixed in a minor update too.
-
Still not fixed after all this time.
-
@xanathon If you are brave uninstall 6.0 Stable, install 6.1 Snapshot which has a fix [
Warning: you can not downgrade after this without dataloss!].
-
@DoctorG I am not willing to install an unstable snapshot and change to the unstable branch (mostly because of potential other bugs I will get with doing that). The fix has to be rolled out to stable.

I understand this, could be more a risk than a fix for you.
The fix has to be rolled out to stable.
I agree.

I am new to Vivaldi and having same issue and quite shocked that the team would allow such a bad bug to persist in the “stable” version for 6+ weeks now. I am very close to going back to Edge after just a few days. I have spent hours upon hours trying to setup and re-setup workspaces and a bunch of tabs and stacks and I continue to have these issues.
I very much hope the Vivaldi team thinks about making an official announcement / response / explanations for the issues and the lack of patching Stable branch in a reasonable amount of time. This is quite shocking especially with a feature that is turned on by default and has had a lot of videos and social media posts about (workspaces). At minimum the team could have disabled workspaces by default and warned the user if they turn it on that there are unresolved issues being investigated. Very unfortunate… I now have to make the decision whether I want to invest fully switching to Vivaldi and risk this kind of things happening again down the road.
Overall my biggest frustration is in the lack of transparency and communication from the team when a large bug like this persists in the Stable branch for over 6 weeks.

Having all tabs revert to the top workspace every time I restart is agonizing. I shouldn't have to spend a minute organizing when I open my web browser. How is this still an issue?

@iandrzej
Hi, the problem of this issue is nobody from the tester and developer team can reproduce this in a clean profile.
I have 12 Vivaldi installs and never had this issue and I test workspaces for month now.
Create a new profile, close all tabs, change nothing, install nothing.
Create 2-3 workspaces with a handful of tabs, restart this profile.
You have to enable "Last Session" if you may not know:Cheers, mib
@gitmurf @iandrzej may you check the post of @yesname about broken session files:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/83969/workspaces/69 -
I experienced this problem recently.
I have seemingly managed to resolve the issue by disabling all my extensions :- 1Password
- Dark Reader
- Decentraleyes
- Save to Pocket
- uBlock Origin
I then moved only a few tabs into various Workspaces, closed Vivaldi and relaunched it.
Any moved tabs now remained in their respective Workspaces. At this point, I systematically moved a few tabs at a time, enabling one extension at a time and rebooting Vivaldi each time until all extensions were enabled and for some reason my tabs have remained in their respective Workspaces.
For context, I had over 100 tabs spread across 9 Workspaces.
The only other thing that I changed and didn't independently test, was disabling "Always Load Pinned Tabs."
Hope this helps.

Hi, the problem of this issue is nobody from the tester and developer team can reproduce this in a clean profile. That makes no sense. Why is said that there already is a fix in the dev branch (https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/662319) and now you claim it cannot be reproduced? That does not work out - one or the other.
Besides: Saying "we cannot reproduce it" is always a very bad support or dev answer, especially if lots of people report that problem. I have five Vivaldi instances on three computers having the same setup and the same addons and two of the five (on different computers) have that problem. "Last Session" is enabled on all of them.
It is a dealbreaker and needs to be adressed, especially after this feature was advertised in such a "loud" way as a great new feature. While it was not production ready. This now goes on for months without a solution.

@xanathon
Hi, I don´t know about this bug, maybe @Hadden89 have the bug number.
It´s not I don´t believe user report this there are a lot of reports about.
One user fix this with removing a broken session file, one with stop using a PWA.
How should a developer reproduce this?
I wish I could reproduce that, it would be a lot easier.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin I am a dev myself. If multiple users report a bug (as is the case here) I cannot simply say "I cannot reproduce this", I have to find a way to fix that bug. As I said: On page one of this thread it is said that a fix is already in the unstable branch and I wonder why this is not rolled out to stable? This bug is highly annoying.

Depends on how complete these reports are.
A bug for Vvialdi gets a "Can not reproduce" if f.ex. found in a Stable and not reproducible in a internal Nightly or Snapshot version. Bug are not closed because we testers are funny or lazy.
We all try the best to check it.@xanathon said in Workspaces????:
why this is not rolled out to stable?
May be because the code differs too much between Stable and Snapshot. Or lack of spare time. I do not know.
I agree that Workspaces in Stable are sort of a experimental feature.
I am not a Vivaldi fangirl. I can rant and criticise Vivaldi bugs, too, sometimes in a harsh way. -

I do not know which fixed was mentioned months ago. Tell us or ask the person who poste it!
