Option to place the Workspaces icon at far right of the tab bar
-
I'd like the ability to place the Workspaces icon at far right of the tab bar (when tabs are at the top).
I've got it on the right end of the address bar but really it belongs with the tabs.
-
I think it would be better to turn the tab bar into a full fledged toolbar.
Moving the workspaces icon would then be fully handled by the toolbar editor, as opposed to the current setup where the button is present in the editor, but it cannot be moved elsewhere within the tab bar, only disabled.
-
@AltCode Sure, as long as we can move it. But if the tab bar became a tool bar other things could be moved into it?
-
@g_bartsch Save space by reducing it to a button.
-
@g_bartsch Yes, that's the idea.
-
@Pesala Thank you.
It's not so much the space saving I'm after as the placement. I feel the Workspaces icon best fits in the tab bar because a Workspace is a group of tabs.
And I am trying to group my most commonly used elements at the top right of my Vivaldi instance to minimize mouse moves thus my request.

Well, that is easily solved. Place the icon at top right, after the URL field and Search Button (or field). Put your Home button there too, and edit the Home Button to add some useful menus.

Thanks. But Isn’t that what my image is showing I've done already?

I don't suppose you're willing to try a vertical tab bar? I use the tab bar on the right side of the browser, and the workspaces button shows up where you want it.
Incidentally, I've added it to the left of the address bar as well -
@pauloaguia Thank you. I've tried but tabs on the side are not for me.
-
@g_bartsch
How is this?#tabs-container > div.button-toolbar.tabbar-workspace-button { order: 1 !important; } #browser > div.ToolbarButtonPopup-DefaultStyles.button-popup { z-index:99999 !important; }

@shifte
Nice:Cheers, mib

@shifte thanks for the css mod, that's cooler and preferable. Vivaldi team should add this as an option where to place the workspace button. Thumbs up.
-
@shifte Wow that's awesome! Thank you!!
Is it possible to place the Workspaces icon to the left of the trash can icon (so the trash can item is the farthest right icon)?
I feel the trash can should be furthest to the right because it would be used less than switching Workspaces and should be 'anchored' there as a stable UI element much like the Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons are universal.
But here I am arguing for a universal when this thread is all about customizing!
I tried by using
order: 2
but that didn't work. -

This code is short and simple but how difficult is it for the Vivaldi devs to code another option? There must be work to that? Or do they have option templates they can reuse?
-
@g_bartsch I think the need for this is limited. Since CSS mods are available for edge-cases if some users need them, there is not much incentive for the Team to spend time on this.
I am sure that they would like to do it one day, but there are so many more things to do.

Yes and in this case @shifte has built basically 100% what I want. IF he's able to move the trash can to the far right the few people in the world who want this will be totally satisfied.

Order
hasn't been set on the other elements in the tab bar, so the other elements won't respect any order changes unlessorder
is set on them as well.You can get your desired order by adding this to @shifte's CSS:
.toolbar-tabbar.sync-and-trash-container { order: 2; }

@nomadic Wow; it works! And is perfect - thank you so much. Some of you people are coding geniuses.
So if anything else were to ever make its way up there this code would likely break and need to be updated? And all the items could be arranged as desired?
-
@nomadic Looking good now.
