OK cool thanks, will check it out.

@cOAPerator I prefer the workspace management of the Sidekick browser (https://www.meetsidekick.com) or Arc Browser (https://arc.net). In any case, it is a feature that is missing a lot I think.
-
It would be great if the new Workspace feature could show a have a different bookmark bar so that I truly could separate my work and personal flows.

Can you describe in short what's so great about it? What I hate about browsers like Sidekick and Arc is that they got rid of the tab-bar, I actually hate having to use the sidebar.

This now exists as an experimental feature called Workspaces which you can find in "vivaldi://experiments". Once it is enabled there you can use it almost just like Operas Workspaces. However currently you are only able to switch between the Workspaces and not have them as a permanent button on the toolbar like opera. This can be edited and changed with Command chains and custom CSS if you want to put in the effort to make it even more like Opera. Hope this helps!
I have just checked out Workspaces on Vivaldi 5.7 and it's nice and simple however I would indeed like separate buttons perhaps in the statusbar, because this will save you quite a lot of extra clicks.
-
@RasheedHolland Then create the buttons, you already can. You can also switch workspaces by keyboard shortcut, or by using quick commands, which arguably saves the most clicks, because it’s zero. But yeah, wanting to click is fine. All the tools to achieve this are already available, this is the reason why Vivaldi implemented them, so people can realize their own vision.

And how to do it?
-
- Enable custom buttons and workspaces in
vivaldi://experiments/
, restart - Create the number of workspaces you want to access directly from a button (max 9)
- Open
vivaldi://settings/qc
, look for command chains and create a new one with the+
button - Input a name (e.g. workspace1)
- Pick your command (switch to workspace 1)
- Repeat for all your workspaces
- Open the toolbar editor from the menu or from quick commands (customize toolbar)
- Switch to command chains in the menu and move the custom buttons to any toolbar
- Bonus: the button icons can be changed in
vivaldi://settings/themes
⇒ editor ⇒ icons. Either load/create/edit an SVG with Inkscape, or load a fitting image (png)
- Enable custom buttons and workspaces in

Interesting, but I couldn't make it work. I'm afraid this Command Chain stuff is a bit too complex for me at the moment.

I don't know how it works in Opera or the other browsers that you mentioned, but I came to the conclusion that the way it's currently implemented in Vivaldi 5.7 is a bit confusing. I personally would simply like to assign certain websites to certain Workspaces, which mean that even when you close those websites, they will reload when you choose a certain Workspace. At the moment this doesn't seem to be the case?

@rachmaninov jesust christ, so freaking true, that's insane how stuborn they are with adding this feature

@HarveyBirdman96 The thread is tagged as In Progress.
If you want to test the experimental Workspaces feature, go to
vivaldi://experiments
and enable it. Do not expect it to be polished and without bugs. The Snapshots let you preview the latest features (and bugs).
Install the Snapshot as a Standalone Version so that it does not interfere with your settings for the Stable release.

I'm worried that the function will not be finalized, so I posted it here and in the topic https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/85543/fix-for-new-function-workspace
I believe that the current implementation is incomplete to the end. It is for this reason that it will be difficult for beginners and people unfamiliar with PCs to understand the idea of workspaces. My idea makes a simpler understanding of workspaces and makes a complete idea of workspaces. I want to note that I think this is a very important question, and I am sure that this is a very very important idea, and therefore it is necessary to create a test version with my idea so that it is clear that this is a very important revision. But I ask all developers to get into my idea. And I urge that this is a very important revision.
I have used many browsers where there are spaces. Opera browser is an analogue of tab groups. I used other browsers. Shift, Stack, to be honest, I have already forgotten the exact names of the browsers, There were spaces in the "Mini" browser too. And I will tell you that I have seen the topic of workspaces well from different sides. But in Vivaldi, spaces are like saved window with tabs. This is quite good. But if it's like saving windows, then why do we need to introduce new terms. We can call the same thing saving windows for beginners. For professionals, it is important that this function be, and for beginners, the main thing is that it is intuitive in the name of the function. Therefore, if it is called window saving, it will be easier. People were asking for workspaces. But in fact, they needed windows to be saved as menus. and be able to quickly switch between these saves.
-- I understand that the workspace is an analogue of a NEW WINDOW. At the same time, if you close the tabbed window, the tabs will remain in the workspace. But if you close the window in the main workspace, it will close without saving tabs. Then it's not finalized at all. In this case, you need to make sure that each window is displayed as a workspace. But if desired, each workspacein the list, which is a window, could be pinned to this list, and then it will not close, or unpin, and then it will be removed from the list of workspaces when the window is closed. It's very intuitive and very obvious. There will be no 2nd interpretation of functions. What do you think? Such an idea is finished and refined to the end.
-I repeat. Each window will be displayed in the list of workspaces as a list item. The user can pin this list item, unpin, rename and open new window. It will be a window manager at the same time, it will be a workspace manager at the same time. It will be intuitive and obvious and everyone understands how it works. So that the user can see all open windows of all windows in a single list.
--> Who can I offer this to (the developer of workspaces) so that he can evaluate it?
And I'll add a second idea, add two button [New private space] in workspace menu
It is a pity that the workspaces do not support the new user Agent mode. After all, the new workspace should have 2 modes. Current and new UserAgent. You can add an element to this list, create a space with a new user agent, which will be equivalent to private mode. When the private window is closed, the workspace list item is removed from the list. And if this element is fixed before the window closes. Then we will get 2 user agents in the workspaces.
Each item in the list will mean a separate window. In order for unsaved spaces to open when the browser is loaded, then obviously, as before, it is necessary to close the browser using the menu item EXIT.
If you switch the window to a new workspace, and the current window is not saved as a workspace. Then a dialog box should appear with 3 buttons for the current workspace: Pin, Delete, Open in a new window.
