What do you expect from Vivaldi on iOS?
-
Similar to Firefox, before they made a browser for iOS, there was a possibility access your sync account and open bookmarks, tabs from other devices. That would be a good starting point before releasing a browser built on WebKit.
-
@weasyx since the iOS browser is coming this would be only a waste of time and workforce.
I still hope that by Christmas we will receive a TestFlight version -
Make it like on Android. That's perfect.

- Ad blocking must be robust and configurable as on Android
this!
lately I am using Safari/AdGuard, last night - needing some stuff synced on desktop - I have used Opera for a while and ... ad-blocking is a huge issue, Vivaldi needs to up its ad-blocking iOS game at least at Brave levels. -
To be honest, I would just like it to exist. I do find it odd that I can use Vivaldi as my browser of choice on my Mac but can't use it on my iPhone.

@doctorcdf As you can see here, the Vivaldi team is already working on a Vivaldi for iOS:

-
@doctorcdf Mac does not block valid Mac OS software from being downloaded. It does not have to be in the Apple Store. Vivaldi exists in a valid Mac version.
iOS (the phone operating system) does block downloads not approved in the Apple Store, and specifically blocks browsers from being added to the Apple Store unless they are built on Apple's own version of WebKit. That makes it much harder to introduce a browser to iOS, especially if you don't want it to be merely a branded version of Safari.

Browse like a PC version
Block scammers, especially the chrome nonsense too.and the main one - Synch with my PC like Firefox does a cross machines.
Thank you

The biggest feature that I would like to see on an iOS version of Vivaldi would be the ability to have a tab bar visible at all times in portrait mode. As iPhone screens get larger and larger, there is more and more space in portrait mode for a tab bar to be a viable solution. Currently only browsers such as Brave and Red App offer the ability to keep a tab bar visible in portrait mode. Safari offers this feature, but only when in landscape mode mode
-
@Ayespy "...merely a branded version of Safari" would be a big uppgrade from how things stand now. Now, don't get me wrong, an awesome browser for iOS would be great. But I think it would be just fine (at least for a while) to build a decent iOS browser purely as an accessory to the great browser on MacOS and other platforms.
So, not a product to wow anybody, but just to make the 1 billion iPhone users consider Vivaldi as their main browser.
-
Must have things for me would be;
-
Open tab sync.
-
Set & Sync custom search engine.
-
Tab groups that sync between devices.
-
Separate profiles (Like FF Container tabs)
Things that would be out of this world to have;
-
Set custom apps for opening links. (eg. open Reddit links in Apollo instead of just opening the page in the browser)
-
Ability to install extensions from the FF & Chrome store.
For clarity, everything on this list is 100% possible and allowed on iOS, Orion has already proven this.

Orion is a hit and miss browser, most of what they promise does not work, and some UI choices (example: tabs management) are clumsy at best; it is annoying that Vivaldi is still late to the iOS party but I am confident that when the browser will be ready it will be a great one.
What makes me confident? look at its android versionI hope this will be there form the start
another essential feature - AFAIK Opera is the only mobile browser doing it - is: when I close a tab the browser activates the previously active tab (and it makes no difference if it is a private one or not)
-
The iOS version of Vivaldi can't come quickly enough. I am starving. Looking at the requested functionality, most of it I agree on.
I would like to add a Sync of Bookmarks and Notes. Thinking I would recommend adding Notes as a separate OS Vivaldi App.

I'm not an iOS user and don't plan on being one, but I would hope that the iOS version is as close as possible to the Android version! (To me it's the perfect mobile browser)

That's not quite true. You can use the AltStore app store on an iPhone (or iPad) without jailbreaking. Of course, it'd be preferable for Vivaldi to be in the Apple app store. But in case that doesn't work out: AltStore can be Plan B.

Hi all!
As someone who stumbled on the blog post from Jon where he takes a clear stance against crypto it immediately peaked my interest in the company so i downloaded Vivaldi to give it a try on desktop (Itยดs been many years since i last tried it) and i quite like it! But until Vivaldi releases a good option on iOS they canยดt become my default. So my necessities for a iOS browser:
- Tab sync and send
- Built in adblock on Brave Browser level, which i find to work good for me.
- Custom search engines (preferrably with a option to sync search providers/settings across all devices)
These two next points are basically how Safari does tab management and in my opinion every browser should be mandated to at least include these as default behaviour on iOS:
- Switching tabs by swiping left/right on bottom/url bar
- View all open tabs by swipe up on bottom/url bar.
One random wishlist item is:
- Dark Reader built in would be fantastic.
Tab management is why iยดm currently on Brave (I need Windows and Linux clients too so no Safari), which i consider the least evil option of the Chromium bunch currently available on iOS but since i absolutely despise their crypto focus and want to switch desperately so really my hopes are on Vivaldi now.
Looking forward to seeing what the future brings!

@pjol it looks like there was too much optimism on my side
