What do you expect from Vivaldi on iOS?
-
waiting for the beta we can talk about it I guess
-
search engine sync should be a given
-
adblock: this is area where Vivaldi should distinguish itself from the rest, currently Safari plus extension - and Orion - are the only browsers for iOS with a decent adblocking, the cosmetic side is pretty awful with Firefox, Edge, Opera and Brave.
-
please keep Safari's option of changing tabs by sliding them
always about ad-block: it would be a dream if Vivaldi would replicate what Orion has achieved and make it possible to install uBlock Origin
what else do you expect?

I'm looking forward the most to tab management. I've been using Safari on my iPad and Orion on my iPhone, but the tab management in those two is such a hassle and very lackluster.
Overall though, I do hope that it will at least have feature parity with Vivaldi for Android by the time it reaches stable.
-
@AltCode tab management is clumsy on Safari and Orion, no doubt about it, but buttons/commands is quite good, it remains to be seen how Vivaldi will address the development, since there are some good ideas in webkit/Safari and that they have to work within that framework it could make sense to keep the good features.
The switch between tabs sections is another interesting area, IMO Opera is the only one who gets it right, example: if I am in a private tab, when I leave the private area the browser has to bring me where I was before. -

Agreed. On top of that, I'd love to see support for multiple windows and tab tiling. Very few browsers in the App Store support multi-window, surprisingly (I think it's only Edge and maybe Chrome that support this right now).

@TalGarik I am an Android user thinking of switching to an iPhone. Lack of Vivaldi is a deal-breaker. At a minimum:
- Sync must work flawlessly, including the ability to access current tabs on other machines.
- Ad blocking must be robust and configurable as on Android
- Password Managers like BitWarden must work.
- I know Vivaldi will blow the Apple-using world out of its socks with its superior tab management, so while that's a must-have I know it will certainly be there out of the gate.

I've been using Vivaldi on my new Android tablet, and one of the things I miss most is uMatrix. It'd be good to get uBlock Origin (which is similar to uMatrix) on the mobile Vivaldi.

Agreed. I prefer to use iCloud Keychain and would love to see support for that, but I hope the integration with the existing password managers works well. General system integration would be nice, too, provided that Apple supports it.

A must have option is: new tab next to the previous tab! link open tab next to the previous tab! option dublicate tab! hope this will come true! and scrolling fast through many open tabs.
-
I personally love the shortcut feature of the bookmark manager, using own short "keywords" instead of urls, to open a bookmark. I use and love this on my PC. For iPAD OS it would be great. For iOS I wouldn't missed it that much maybe.
Of course bookmarks should sync across all devices.
-
I understand what a pain is it to work on an app for such a closed-source system as Apple's iOS. However I would be happy to have as an acceptable option in the interim a "Vivaldi Lite" or Vivaldi for iOS" version that does basic things like syncs bookmarks, notes, etc.
-
Similar to Firefox, before they made a browser for iOS, there was a possibility access your sync account and open bookmarks, tabs from other devices. That would be a good starting point before releasing a browser built on WebKit.
-
@weasyx since the iOS browser is coming this would be only a waste of time and workforce.
I still hope that by Christmas we will receive a TestFlight version -
Make it like on Android. That's perfect.

this!
lately I am using Safari/AdGuard, last night - needing some stuff synced on desktop - I have used Opera for a while and ... ad-blocking is a huge issue, Vivaldi needs to up its ad-blocking iOS game at least at Brave levels. -
To be honest, I would just like it to exist. I do find it odd that I can use Vivaldi as my browser of choice on my Mac but can't use it on my iPhone.
-
@doctorcdf As you can see here, the Vivaldi team is already working on a Vivaldi for iOS:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/80018/sync-vivaldi-bookmarks-and-passwords-with-safari/2
-
@doctorcdf Mac does not block valid Mac OS software from being downloaded. It does not have to be in the Apple Store. Vivaldi exists in a valid Mac version.
iOS (the phone operating system) does block downloads not approved in the Apple Store, and specifically blocks browsers from being added to the Apple Store unless they are built on Apple's own version of WebKit. That makes it much harder to introduce a browser to iOS, especially if you don't want it to be merely a branded version of Safari.

Browse like a PC version
Block scammers, especially the chrome nonsense too.and the main one - Synch with my PC like Firefox does a cross machines.
Thank you

The biggest feature that I would like to see on an iOS version of Vivaldi would be the ability to have a tab bar visible at all times in portrait mode. As iPhone screens get larger and larger, there is more and more space in portrait mode for a tab bar to be a viable solution. Currently only browsers such as Brave and Red App offer the ability to keep a tab bar visible in portrait mode. Safari offers this feature, but only when in landscape mode mode
-
@Ayespy "...merely a branded version of Safari" would be a big uppgrade from how things stand now. Now, don't get me wrong, an awesome browser for iOS would be great. But I think it would be just fine (at least for a while) to build a decent iOS browser purely as an accessory to the great browser on MacOS and other platforms.
So, not a product to wow anybody, but just to make the 1 billion iPhone users consider Vivaldi as their main browser.
