Minor Chromium bump and a few fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2679.16
-
@cOAPerator Hey, you are not alone, this looks exactly like what happened to me since the previous snapshot, the difference is that for me its on google.com mostly when accessing it thru a duckduckgo bang (ex: test !g).
For a moment i thought that clearing cache, application cache and site settings did the trick, and i was about to post the solution but now the bug is back so don't bother with it... it seems like a rendering issue the content it's still there you can even see it in the developer tools, just not rendered properly, have yet to test disabling all addons, cause it never happened in a private window, or maybe it's a driver issue that it's showing it face after latest chrom* versions changing something, didn't happened on other browsers tho.
Here's a vid of mine (I'm even blindly using the search box and clicking links as to show that the content is there and when you navigate away from google.com everything just works):
https://imgur.com/a/cguG0pTPS. It doesn't happen 100% of the time, sometimes it works for several minutes then starts doing it again, so it's not even 100% reproducible (Amd gpu btw).
-
@Sdar I seem to have found the reason - I have hardware acceleration turned on, if I turn it off, then the sites are displayed normally
but I will not turn it off, because otherwise on YouTube in 4k the video will slow down -
@cOAPerator Yeah, i was ignoring the blacklist and had enabled Zero-copy rasterizer and a few other things, sadly disabling that didn't solve the issue and disabling hw accelerations completely is just not a good fix for me either, will try to do more testing this weekend, as it's weird that stackoverflow works 100% of the time for me and probably google will work fine for you, that's why i thought that it may be from corrupted cache.
Btw Are you also using an amd gpu ot it's nvidia?
-
@cOAPerator I had the idea to try different Angle backends as iirc they had changed something on the dx11 one, with opengl was doing the same but the dx9 one seems to fail less, instead of blank page it usually just works and do a weird checkboard effect when scrolling on the affected page.
if you are interested the Angle backend can be changed on this url: chrome://flags/#use-angle

I have not only stackoverflow.com, but also medium.com and google too - white sheet and screen distortions

floating sidebar setting enabled - nothing twitches in the stable version
This is a feature!? Devs "fixed" the floating panel bar bug... I, too want the
unintendedundocumented feature!
(As an option? Or mod, with details for dolts like me?
The jitter you see is just the result of moving the page aside to make room for the panel bar... -

I know. but this is the wrong behavior - it must be as before
if the panel is floating, it means that the entire panel should float, and not shift all content when opened
I use the functions in the panel very rarely - I opened it, performed an action, closed it - so as not to interfere
and so it turns out the constant twitching of the content part of the site -
🪟 With fresh profile, after selecting "Full Featured" and adding a account, Vivaldi fails to start its Mail client.
-
@cOAPerator I understand; others have a different opinion: The Panel Bar is part of the UI, in their view, and should not "overlap" or cover up the web page...
-
@RuninGag You're also right, and the actual solution for Vivaldi devs would be: make it optional.
-
The Vivaldi application occasionally goes black whilst horizontally resizing the Vivaldi browser window... Causes tabs to refresh and lose their content e.g. Figma. Wife has experienced this frequently today with multiple tabs (20+) open, and whilst using dev tools.
Latest snapshot, Windows 10 Pro 21H2 19044.1706.
-
Has there been any progress on VB-86760, VB-86341, or VB-86883, i.e. sending tabs from Mobile to Desktop Vivaldi not working? It's a very important part of my workflow and I sorely miss it.
-
-
Two minor anomalies:
-
when loading a saved session, fixed tabs are created twice. However, not in the newly opened window, but in the already opened window. Very annoying.
-
The setting "Confirm closing of window" is not respected sometimes and a "confirmation window" opens.
-
-
@trojanobelix Be aware that closing a window with pinned tabs will not close the pinned tabs, but will transfer them to an existing open window.
I did find that pinned tabs were created twice in another window when closing a window with pinned tabs.
There are two confirmation options: on window close, and on exit. Have you enabled them both?

I hope I'm not too late on this (probably too late to see any of this done in any future 5.3 snapshots), but I wanted to share this feedback regarding the toolbar editor.
Separators
I'm glad we're able to place spaces and flexible spaces, though I wish we could also place separators. Separators can already be placed in so many other places (bookmarks manager, notes manager, menu customization).
Prior to the introduction of the toolbar editor, the profile button even came with its own separator! I wish I could place these in other places to separate buttons how I see fit.
The editor
I talked about this before, but I'll mention it again anyways. I wish the toolbar editor opened in its own tab instead of as a popup.
The popup is kinda weird that it doesn't close if you change tabs, but it does if you click anywhere inside the current tab.
I strongly believe that displaying the editor in a separate tab would result in a better user experience.
Editing outside the editor
I also mentioned this before; now that the toolbar editor exists, I just don't understand why there is a need to have a button dragging modifier key (other than to edit the panel bar of course), or more importantly why it was changed from
shift
toctrl
/cmd
.This change also ends with a slightly worse user experience for mac users, since the modifier key has to be released before placing an icon (and the only way to know this is to open the toolbar editor, which gives a better user experience anyways).
Extensions
@jane-n said in Toolbar customization, settings reset and disabling the autoplay of videos – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2679.3:
You can go to Settings > Address Bar > Extension Visibility and enable both "Toggle Only Hidden Extensions" and "Expand Hidden Extensions to a Drop-Down Menu". Then, as long as you don't have any hidden extensions, you won't see the Extensions button.
@jane-n said in Toolbar customization, settings reset and disabling the autoplay of videos – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2679.3:
It was changed when the Toolbar Editor was introduced. A small arrow doesn't really represent Extensions as well as the more widely known puzzle piece does.
I have to wonder why it must still work this way, even when the toolbar editor is now a thing... I would have wished that with the new toolbar customization brought by the editor, we would have been able to freely place extension icons anywhere, but no, all extensions currently have to be clumped together.
Picture this scenario: I have at least 3 extensions. I wish to display one of these extension icons in the navigation toolbar, another one in the status toolbar, and the third one I do not want to show at all. With the current extension toggle, this is not possible at all, because it brings with it every extension icon.
I want to bring to light that the toolbar editor seen in Firefox allows this scenario to occur, because every extension icon is independent from one another, unlike Vivaldi, where they depend of the extension toggle.
Button containers
This is something else I wish could place. A container would basically work much how the extension toggle works right now, but you would get to choose which buttons it hides.
I think it would be great for things like command chains, so that you could have more than one inside a toolbar without cluttering it too much.
Tab bar buttons
A strange omission from the toolbar editor were the the tab bar buttons. Currently, the sync tabs button and the trash cannot be moved from their position, and disabling them still requires going to
vivaldi://settings/tabs
.These buttons should be, imo, editable through the toolbar editor as well (Though for this, I suspect the tab bar has to be made into a proper toolbar, like the address bar was made into the navigation toolbar).
In any case, I think I will open several feature requests for these soon enough anyways.

It is much quicker than right-click, edit, customise toolbar, and since it is the only way to move panel icons if it did not also move toolbar buttons that would be inconsistent.
I assume that the change to Ctrl from Shift was made just because it is more commonly used. There have been many questions on the forum regarding moving buttons and panel icons. Some users have asked for no modifier, but I think that would result in more problems when users move the buttons by accident.
I wish the toolbar editor opened in its own tab instead of as a popup.
Not much benefit in this. Editing toolbars is an occasional task. In old Opera too, the customise dialog was used to select different toolbars for editing.
Separators would be useful, and presumably simple to add.

What are all these empty "Dedicated worker" tasks?
