Solved New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
-
I believe the issue you're having is known and explained here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/71036/history/14?_=1648011267615
Here's a copy of that post:
probably caused by this recent, unresolved (as for now) bug:
VB-85041 New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
. Our developers are aware of the issue and will try to find a solution as soon as possible. -
@pafflick , do you know why this post is all of a sudden "gone" ?

@thebestpessimist You've copied a link to a thread, which has been merged with this one - that's why it doesn't work. The permalink to the post still works: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/559897

@nomadic Could you help me with the workaround for this extension?

@pafflick I have some complaints and suggestions regarding this forum:
- In the error message, instead of "don't have access to" it should say that it's been moved, and give me a link to the new thread.
1.1. even better if i am automatically redirected and i just get a tiny notification box about "your original thread has been merged with the current one, but we've taken you to the right position anyway :)"
- i was
watching
the old thread and now the new one isnot watching
. This makes me lose information silently: idk that the old one is moved, idk about the new one at all => idk that changes or discussion is happening. Imo, merging threads should also merge all thewatching
statuses

@urfausto This should do it:
chrome-extension://ijhhakihjccpanbibbcceofpjnebokcb/src/override/index.html

@nomadic thank you a million! it works flawlessly!
no more bug!

@nomadic I can't access this link. Can you paste the solution? Thanks.

Hi,
If I set New Tab Page as "Controlled by Extension" --> History and Bookmarks pages stop showing any info and become "blank".
To reproduce:
- Set a checbox as shown below
----
2. Check History (Ctrl+H, by default)
----
3. Check Bookmars (Ctrl+B)
Is there a way to have both, controlled by extension start page and working History and Bookmarks tabs?
I tried to do the same on different PCs with different extensions and always have the same result.
Thanks!
- Set a checbox as shown below

@pathduck how to do that URL? Can you show us? 'Cuz there's more bugs with every update of Vivaldi and I'm tired of waiting for a fix. And you should write down how to make or check that URL by itself instead of every single interested person writing to you asking for help.
-
@kryllyn Just press F12, network tab, reload the page, find the first HTML request, click it and copy the Request URL. Use that for New Tab Page in settings or mix it up how you want it.
Should work for most new tab extensions, maybe not all - you'll figure it out. Point is to find the URL the extension uses for its start page.
And look, you might as well tell me the extension (and its store URL), I can dig it out for you in a couple mins. It's gonna take me much longer to write an
idiotfool-proof guide and I'd still be asked "I make what you say but it no worky for me (cry)" a hundred times. -

I understand your argument here. Nevertheless I don't know how often you're visiting forum even though you're a moderator and if you'll respond, and how quickly. If I need to rely on others, I usually looking for answers somewhere else instead. Asking is the last resort
And additionally I prefer getting a fishing rod instead of a fishThanks for the solution

I'm new to Vivaldi, And was experimenting with it the past few days.
Currently i'm using extensions to manage the new tab. Muzli or Panda for example.
And i noticed that whenever i activate the option of "Controlled by extension" i noticed a few things don't work immediately.First, The start page shows the same new tab content, But nothing is clickable. Just a view.
Second, History page shows a blank page with address bar showing "vivaldi://history/" and that's it. The only way to access history is through the left panel shortcut.
Third, Bookmarks page shows a blank page with address bar showing "vivaldi://bookmarks//" just like the problem with history page.
These issues are present as long as i have this option activated. and everything goes back to normal as soon as i deactivate it.
I didn't find a similar problem in the forums but a few related issues. not exactly my case.
Hope to find a solution for it. -

@ayespy Hey, is there any update on whether or not this will be fixed? I need to come back from Firefox, it is too slow and lags too much. I think it's because of how many bookmarks I have. I have a ton of them.
