Option to Disable Autoload and Autoplay of HTML5 Videos
-
@chas4 forget about each individual media player, cuz there are limitless of variation & some of 'em intentionally broke the standard for profits... Just focus on the <video> & <audio> tag & bypass those stupid media player.
Basically just build a <video> & <audio> blocker (or media player blocker), block all of 'em onload & then allow user to click on the "blocked element" placeholder on website, or button on browser's GUI to load the media player.
Then build a STOP command to suspend any media player process regardless of it's status (similar to images & animation). Then we will have full control over WHEN to play & STOP any video/audio on OUR Vivaldi browser.

@dude99 That assumes they are using those HTML tags, many don't.

Which HTML element do theses use?
<object …>
or<embed …>

@doctorg Might be left overs from the 90s or javascript or src etc

I request that vivaldi add the Firefox Autoplay setting choices:
Allow Audio and Video
Block Audio
Block Audio and Video
Firefox also allows a list of websites that do not follow default settings -
Happy 4th year anniversary! This request currently have 218 upvote & stuck in pipeline for many, many years already. LOL
I think we need to refresh the recommended extension list for 2022, anyone know extensions that still can block autoplay on pageload?
-
This workaround clearly will not suit all people, but anyway fwiw. I keep youtube cookies permanently blocked, which stops both autoplay and the tedious European Permissions overlay.

Enhancer for Youtube https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/enhancer-for-youtube/ponfpcnoihfmfllpaingbgckeeldkhle
Obviously only works on Youtube though.
-
@tbgbe Why not obviate an extraneous extension simply by blocking cookies?
-
@guigirl Because I have login, subscribes and watched active.
-
@tbgbe Euw.
-
@dude99 I use AutoplayStopper while I wait for Vivaldi to add it natively like in Firefox.
-
This extension is the one I use because I've had the best luck with it: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/html5-autoplay-blocker/icppkihnmgkncknjlfkkjgfgoifkcgii

This is being worked on.
-
...and it's implemented, expect it on a future snapshot.

It works really well, but any possibility of making it selective on certain pages?
I use Duolingo and it stops the audio from being played, but that's one page I'd like autoplay to still function normally so I can hear the lessons.

@cynical13 Set the Site settings for that site from the padlock icon.
-
@Pesala I should have known that. Thank you!

I'm just thrilled that the developer's of this browser finally were able to add this feature, I know I submitted a request for this feature quite awhile ago, but as I've mentioned I know that the individuals behind this browser doesn't have a huge amount of employee's so sometimes requested features take time to get evaluated & if they get approved it takes additional time to get implemented.
