Solved Tab group switching with hiding tabs (Panorama, workspaces)
-
There is already a Tab Stack feature; I like the tab tiling idea, but the tab stacking and saving it as one session and again opening the saved sessions from already saved sessions is time-consuming work to do while working for hours and hours.
Workplaces for organizing tabs for particular purposes and managing the tabs from the side panel could help switch between multiple tabs.
Short and simple, Just like OPERA BROWSER. I have completely switched to VIVALDI BROWSER. I'm looking for more easily accessible customizations.
I appreciate it if you consider this or any help you can provide.

Switched from Opera recently and kind of missing this feature. It was handy.
-
+1 for it, the lack of Workspaces (and my Flow alternative - https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/58333/my-flow-snyc-like-in-opera) are the reasons I can't switch from Opera yet.
-
@elc00l @swanux You should expect to adapt your workflow when changing browsers. There will always be some missing features, or similar features that are implemented differently. This topic is not even tagged as In Progress or Pipeline yet; not even as Nice to Have. The number of votes does not mean very much.
With 3,788 feature requests, and a small team, those needed by few users or difficult to implement may have to wait for a long time. Wherever you see that a feature is tagged as In Progress, it may get done this year rather than next.

@elc00l The Profiles feature have all Opera's Workspace functionality, minus using the same window.
Using the same window is a hard requirement for you? -

Just checked the recent update - two-level tab stacks might just be the solve we've been looking for! What does everyone think?
-
@theoldmanempire I switched to Opera for this very reason, but i find that the two-layer tab stack does what I wanted it to do anyway more or less, so I'm switching back. Are Opera's workspaces a little nicer in some ways? sure, but the two-layer tab stacks are more flexible anyway which is pretty nice. So I'm switching back
-
Please add the workspaces feature, same as Opera! This is one of the most convenient features I use every day.
-
This feature is priority A for me. Unfortunate I have to use Opera as my main browser just because of this although Vivaldi is my default choice.
Workspaces with stacked tabs will be the absolute definition of tech perfection. -
@guigirl So no reason to betray V for FF…

I have some questions to ask people who voted for this request:
- What is more important: the ability to hide tabs that are in other groups, or the flashy Firefox-style visualisation where you get an overview of all the tabs?
- Can you think of any improvements that could build upon just copying firefox's panorama?

@LonM
1.
To hide everything I am not currently focused on.
But with the ability to quickly switch to a new context.
My current browser looks like this; https://i.imgur.com/VO7XfyE.png
(As you can see stacks is not enough)
2.
My need for this is task and context management.
I have long term tasks (family stuff, health, looking for job, programming research,..) and short term (externally opened tabs, twitter binge, wikipedia research tangent on sunflowers,..).
And I like to make a group for each of these tasks.
It's then easy to keep things in perspective when every task is bounded and I can just scroll across them.
When i'm certain I'm done with a task i can just nuke the entire group and be certain I don't close anything I shouldn't.
If I come up with a new cool programming trick I can throw it in the appropriate group and browse over and compare to anything else I have there.
Without this kind of grouping everything will blend together, all the tabs will be in semirandom order.
It's difficult to see where a task starts and ends, with lots of tabs being left unseen forever.Years ago there was an extension for firefox called TabGroups Manager (unrelated to current with same name) that was ideal for my use case. Unfortunately the constant firefox api changes always broke it and the developer gave up.
In simple terms it was tabs-of-tabs.
Dropping tabs into a group was just drag&drop.
Switching between these groups was also almost instant. (which no extension since has matched)
Here's a screenshot of my tabs at the time; https://i.imgur.com/2ff0fRP.png
Every task context in it's own group tab-of-tabs.
It had lots of useful features like moving certain domains always to specific group, opening externally launched urls in a special Ext. group, open link in group x, etc.A keyboard shortcut for sending current tab to a specific group (but staying in current group) would also be useful for sorting tabs.

We need a fullview (not just panel) Session manager that include all tabs from all window of selected session. So that we can actually manage tab across all session in the same GUI, instead of jumping between various windows of sessions. It doesn't need to have fancy transition animation or thumbnails, just keep it as simple & straightforward as possible - we need easy accessibility to manage tabs from different windows & sessions. So maybe we should keep thumbnails & animation as optional feature for low end devices. Favicon & title should be sufficient in most cases when we are managing large amount of tabs.
Improvement suggestion:
-
Duplicate tab markers & purge duplicate tabs function. Basically, mark all potential duplicate tabs from the same session by default base on tab's title & url (option to disregard section after #). Then also allow user to cross check duplicate tabs from 2 selected session on demand, & allow user to remove duplicate tabs in batch (kept only 1 copy of duplicate tab) with a "Purge Duplicate" button/command.
-
Merge function. Combined content of 2 selected window/session into one, plus option to remove older duplicate tab in the process.
-
Cross profile support? It would be nice if we can merge or move tab across different profile's session. As of now, it's impossible to do so within Vivaldi GUI.

Glad to see this topic has 'In progress' tag now!
-
And please, add commands to switch workspaces and profiles in the quick commands !

Take a look at

Enable Workspaces. -
That's brilliant! I've been waiting for this feature for 7 years since I abandoned Firefox because Panorama was discontinued. Thank you so much, you're doing great job!

@mozh I prefer the workspace management of the Sidekick browser (https://www.meetsidekick.com) or Arc Browser (https://arc.net). In any case, it is a feature that is missing a lot I think.
-
@Blindheit wow, both browsers take workspace to another level, a challenge for Vivaldi and other browsers. I am testing Sidekick.
