I'm loving Vivaldi World but I confess to being confused. I'm having trouble doing the simplest of functions which I know is 180 away from Vivaldi's goal.

For example, you've pointed me to a few articles -- most of which I had already read. I appreciate it but I cannot find the link to the latest snapshot. It is not on the blog post or maybe I missed it.

I want to create a folder to archive personal email msgs
but I'll be darned if I can figure out how to do it.

Mind you, I'm certainly not new to computers but I am definitely new to Vivaldi where I can dodge Google so I'm running Vivaldi in parallel until I get up to speed.

So please tell me the current snapshot version & tell me exactly where to download it. All links that I've found point to v3.5xxzz

@janrifkinson It’s hard to find it in Vivaldi directly, but if you search e.g. “vivaldi download snapshot” in a search engine, the first hit is this: https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/snapshots/. On the forum we have a dedicated subforum: https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/83/desktop-snapshots.

To download Snapshots, open the latest Snapshot blog post from https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/snapshots/ (on Vivaldi.com > top menu > News > Desktop Snapshots). From the paragraph titled "Download" that lists all OS versions, click on the one you have.
Alternatively, on the link above, look at the column on the right and below "Get the latest version of Vivaldi" click on the Desktop Snapshot option.
Either of these options will open the installer file for download. Install the snapshot (if you're on Windows I suggest installing it as a Standalone. Instructions here)
To use Mail, Calendar and Feeds, go to vivaldi://experiments, enable the technical preview and restart the browser. Then you're all set to start testing the mail client.

To create an archive folder in Webmail, first create a new folder in Settings > Folders and title it Archive or whatever you prefer. Then go to Settings > Preferences > Special Folders and select the newly created folder for your archive. Below you can also select how archive's subfolders are created (annually, monthly, etc).

@janrifkinson Vivaldi is not more or less complex than other programs, it just has many functions built in that other browsers need to add with extensions, or you would need a separate program. Not so in Vivaldi, where lots of functionality is built right in.

Most people do not run their own email servers. They use a service that someone else provides. You seem to have an email address of the type [email protected] using the service from vivaldi.net, which also offers a calendar.

There are two ways to access this email:

through the email provider's website, e.g. https://webmail.vivaldi.net, which you can access by navigating to this website using your webbrowser (like the Vivaldi browser). Here on the forum we like to call this "webmail", because it is mail that you access by navigating the web.
through an application interface, such that email programs like the email app on device (your PC or phone) can download the email directly to your device, and you look at your email using this "email client". Common examples are Outlook, or the Mail app on your phone. If you have more than one email address (say, your personal one and another one for work), then such email programs make it possible to download your emails from all your email addresses and give you direct access to all of them without having to first go to one website to check this email address, and then to another website to check that one. Some of these programs can also connect to the calendar service providers

Now, Vivaldi is a program that runs on your PC, and they decided to add an email client that allows downloading your emails and calendars from the internet and access them without having to go to any websites. So now you can use Vivaldi (the program on your PC) to read your email either way - through the website or (once you set it up) by downloading copies to your PC.

So to summarize:

Vivaldi --> the company that makes the Vivaldi browser and runs the vivaldi.net website.
Vivaldi Webmail --> a service provided online by Vivaldi, giving you an email address and a calendar. You can access this using any browser, not just the Vivaldi browser. As @Gwen-Dragon pointed out, the login to that service says it is called "Vivaldi mail", which is confusing because of the newly added email client functionality in the program, which is also called "Vivaldi Mail" by some.
Vivaldi Mail --> the email client functionality built into the Vivaldi browser, which is currently in a technical preview stage (meaning it is still buggy). Many of the distinguished members of this forum like to call this "M3" for historical reasons - see https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-mail-technical-preview/

@WildEnte First, thank you very much for your extensive response to my endless questions.

Let's see if I've got this right.

Vivaldi (the company) offers an email address which is separate from the latest snapshot browser email/calendar service. For the first one user can check their email from any browser, anywhere; i.e. [email protected].

For the 2nd one (the current snapshot) user needs Vivaldi browser & sign-in to vivaldi.net

To work in the new snapshot email/calendar modules, user signs on to the Vivaldi network & can select either module.
I hope I have that right. I can see the difference in the email GUIs.

If I'm ok so far, I am now having some trouble figuring out how to create a child folder under ARCHIVE.

One of your kind colleagues instructed me to "go to Settings > Preferences > Special Folders and select the newly created folder for your archive. Below you can also select how archive's subfolders are created (annually, monthly, etc)."

I'm probably in the wrong place but looking at settings <CTRL>+F12 I cannot find "Special Folders" so I'm stuck once again.

You do not need to sign in to vivaldi.net to fetch your email using the built-in email client from any email account. You do need to launch the Vivaldi browser Snapshot with the client enabled. The email client supports multiple accounts. You do not need to have a vivaldi.net account to use it.

@janrifkinson correct, you area again in the wrong place looking ... @jane-n said "to create an archive folder in Webmail" which means on https://webmail.vivaldi.net so that's where you need to be looking for the settings. Ctrl + F12 opens the settings in the Vivaldi browser program, so no special folders to find there.

Also, I saw that you use the non standard theme in webmail so things look a bit different. Same as what jane.n said but with some screenshots

Steps:

click "Settings" in the upper right corner
Click "folders" in the menu on the left, then note the big plus icon at the bottom. Click that and you will find that you can enter a folder name "Archive" or whatever you like (I chose 'Archie' in the screenshot). Hit "save"
(this is optional - good if you start using an email program like M3 to access your email) Back to the left in the "settings" field, click "preferences", then choose "special folders". On the right hand side, click the dropdown next to "archive" and select your folder... don't forget to click save when done.

Thank you for the correction. I believe I did download & install the Snapshot. I think I enabled the client but, just to make sure, please tell me exactly how to enable the client. This is what I'm looking at.
