Vivaldi 2.9: Adding more to the Vivaldi Menu
-
ctrl+enter on a word in address bar doesnot open the website anymore but searches the word on the search engine. This is happening since 2.9
Has the funcionaly changed?
-
@reddy-shyam it has been removed for good
-
@reddy-shyam The ctrl+enter functionality has been removed for now as the developers are re-writing how the address bar works.
Removing it makes the task of fixing other bugs easier.

Thanks @ian-coog for the prompt reply. It was my favourite shortcut. Now will have to live without it.
-
@lonm: Thanks Mod. Hope developers will have an 'eureka moment' on the address bar functionality.
-
"Show Tab Bar: Access your tab bar with just a simple click" - It takes two clicks: one to click on the Menu itself and a second click to click on "show tab bar". Am I missing something? It would be so cool if we could have a toolbar button that collapses the menu (with just one click) or an auto-hide feature.
-
@konsservi I prefer keyboard shortcuts for quick access. Access keys are easier to remember than shortcut keys. Alt+V, S will show hide the Tab Bar.
Vote for Option to Autohide Tab Bar / UI

Has anybody made this version work at Raspberry Pi 3B??? (not 3B+ !!!)
-
@Nekomajin I could probably think of some worse options, but yes, it does not work well on some speed dial thumbnails, while being usable on others.
No doubt someone can suggest a mod that would work better. What about a drop shadow?

Almost as if Google had it planned: 78.0.3904.87
-
@debiedowner you can easily revert any not working flag by editing a line in the file Local State with an editor. No need to panic
-
@VivaldiTeam, this is awesome, you are awesome, Vivaldi browser is awesome, thank you!
And now that the menu got so much love and became so much better, its OS / Desktop Environment integration became even more relevant. Maybe it works on macOS (or maybe not), but in Linux the integration with the global menu is missing (while works in Chromium). There is a feature request for that and maybe it could get some attention from now on
(For the context - Global application menu in KDE Plasma)

@aronand: Thanks for this workaround! I updated Vivaldi on my work computer that runs SEP and was frantically trying to figure out why it wouldn't launch anymore even after un-installing everything and re-installing a clean copy.

"Bookmarks: When you view a Bookmark listed in the Vivaldi Menu, you can now right-click it to access a context menu and perform different actions with it."
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

@Pesala
I would prefer no effect at all.It is highly unlikely for someone to use the speed dial by keyboard navigation, because there are much better options for keyboarders. Plus the URL is still visible on the status bar/bubble.
-
@Nekomajin I don't understand the problem in that case since focus will be on the address field and no speed dial thumbnails will be highlighted.
-
@Pesala
Except when you click on the items. -
BUG???
In the bookmarks pane (F4 shortcut), it has a bottom subpane showing the details or attributes of the selected bookmark or bookmark folder.
I used to be able to close this details subpane. Now I can't.
Is there a way to close it?
I'm on macOS -
@Nekomajin Not only keyboard navigaton, if you click on a speed dial item now, even with middle click for opening it in the background it gets outlined with the highlight color...(which makes ZERO sense for opening in the backround) It's the infamous "beforeunload" masking attempt discussed in previous snapshots in another not pretty and sudden form again... Can't we just get an option to NOT outline the speed dials like it was in 2.8 or even in 2.9.1705 RC1 please? What a change of the last second that was? It looks horrible like its Windows 95 or 3.1 again.

@triumph It close OK here on Windows by double-clicking on the separator. A bug that I reported for the Notes Panel a couple of years ago has also been fixed.
(VB-32753) Notes Panel Description Pane Does not Collapse
