Closing in on 2.4 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1488.4

@archive1
This is wholly abnormal.Do you perhaps have a huge number of notes - like thousands of duplicates of the same note perhaps? (It's a very old bug, but that doesn't mean you couldn't still have it.)
What can you tell us about a) the extensions you use and b) any 3rd party security software on the system?
(for context, I have about 30 tabs open right now - run between 30-40 as a rule, plus the built-in email client M3 is running, and Vivaldi is hella-snappy. No lags or freezes.)
-
Thank you for telling me this. I missed it earlier because I didn't notice that DOUBLE right-clicking was needed, as well as on the toolbar buttons.
(But mind that Vivaldi menus also respond to right/middle mouse button...)Double right-clicking might be acceptable, or even considerate. But it's bad that middle-clicking on Navigation buttons is not working now. (The only reason that I don't hide Homepage button is just for middle-clicking, since there seems to be no one-step way to open Homepage in a new tab.) Will it be fixed? Will it even work on Navigation buttons moved to Status bar?
-
@iAN-CooG You're absolutely right: the workaround is a little cumbersome. Nevertheless, I want to complete your relevant remark:
- mpc-hc's interest is gpu hw acceleration with low resources usage
- vlc's interest is the recording button for part of the video footage.
- you can also combine "open with" with FF or any browser.
- python is included in streamlink AIO
To return to the general community interest, it would be great to have a native feature that replaces the "open with" extension
So it's up to you.

Anyone else have issues with twitter videos?

"Close Tabs" regression still here, at least with vertical tabs: clicking on the button clears the list, so unusable...

@drv42: this video is playing correct https://twitter.com/staticanimal/status/1104852071088619520

@TerDale See this post and the reply:

@vias: thanks for the heads-up! Had infer that it was due to the "Clear all" new position, but didn't figure out that holding the mouse button was a workaround. About using right-click, I think I tried it in previous build without luck, so didn't retry it. Likely the best solution while waiting for the fix.

Not for me. Behaves ok with vertical & horizontal tabs.

@archive1 sounds odd to me too, using Vivaldi with tens of tabs for several years, and never faced such freezes. The culprit should be elsewhere, maybe an AV or some other system-wide app... ?
-
I will post it here also. Any chance to get back squared icons before final 2.4?
Bug - "+" button doesn't respect Corner Radius.Edit: Settings window also contains rounded icons and also buttons in settings doesn't respect Corner Radius.
-
Dunno if it is due to the extension itself or to Vivaldi, but having "Session Buddy" installed, its button vanished when its settings tab is closed, and re-appears if tab re-displayed.
Was already the case with the just previous build, while I don't think it was the case with previous versions, though I Can't say when it started to occur exactly. -
"Add setting to disable profile icon in Address bar (VB-50671)" ...I like this new feature very well and also that now the screenshot icon and tile icon in the taskbar are rounded, it looks better than before and the new bookmark icon in the address bar is also very nice to me.
-
@enc0re I agree that this should be fixed before final (personally I prefer a maximum level of rounding os the button is a full circle). These may just be small visual things, but in my mind they are still regressions from normal.
-
The "show typed history" button displays a peculiar behavior: sometimes it works and sometimes it blinks and does nothing, as like it opens and closes in a fraction of a second - if you insist and try again and again, it re-starts working. But, all in all, this browser snapshot is working good and all major problems seem solved (of course nothing is ever solved but...everything essential works). Maybe now it's time to take a look at the browser aesthetics, i.e. smaller and more rounded shaped tiles in speed-dial, more shadows in tabs, better adjusted images of tile favicons and that sort of things - not crucial but "catchy" to help Vivaldi look more attractive.

If the cursor is in the address field, it does that. press esc to unfocus the address field and then the drop down stays, but still, esc doesn't make the dropdown close anymore. Also shift-del seems not deleting history entries. Multiple regressions.

Any chance to check the following issue?

-
Is there a reason that we can't move the zoom controls from the status bar up to the address bar?
You can hack your way around it, and it looks fine, so why not allow shift+click to drag it there?
-
@enc0re: It's not a bug, but part of the UI icons overhaul. Our default theme used to have 0px corner rounding, but the current default uses 3px rounding. This, and our application icon is also round and friendly. We want to keep this consistent, and no other UI icon adhere to the corner rounding setting, which is why we made the decision to treat New Tab like every other icon in our UI.
Unfortunately we can't control the corner radius of our icons programmatically (except New Tab, as it was literally a square), so we opted for less sharp and pointy, and more round and friendly overall. -
@lonm: This will be possible as we move forward, but not as it is right now.
