Command to Switch Between Show Status Bar and Show Overlay
-
Hello
Is there a way I could change the behavior of Ctrl +Shift+S command so it was switching between show status bar and show overlay info instead of show and hide the status bar?
The only thing I found was this: Three-way Toggle for View Status Bar but that's not exactly the feature I'm looking for.
I prefer to go standard way through settings or extensions, but I'm not afraid to use some code when needed (if I'm told how to use it - unfortunately I don't know coding otherwise I'd try to do it myself...)
Thanks for help

@sirien-neiris No, there is no command for show status bar info overlay.

You can mod status bar with custom CSS, i use the below mod:
- set status bar to always show.
- move pointer to bottom right section to show the toolbar buttons.
- URL will auto-show when hover over links.
How to apply mod: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/10629
/* automate status bar */ #footer { height: 0; } #footer #status_info > span { position: absolute; z-index: 999; bottom: 0; left: 0; padding: 0px 7px; background: var(--colorBg); } #footer .status-toolbar { position: absolute; bottom: 0; right: 0; z-index: 999; height: 26px; border-radius: var(--radiusRounded); padding-top: 2px; opacity: 1; background-color: var(--colorBg); transition: 0.1s 0s !important; } #footer .status-toolbar:not(:hover):not(:focus-within) { opacity: 0.01; transform: translateY(55%); transition: 0.1s 0.5s !important; }
other status bar mods: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/116752
NOTE: you will have to reapply the mod after each update & installation. So it's best to keep a backup copy of your custom.css somewhere else.

@dude99 man thank you so much It's a detail, but it really makes me much more comfortable
(still, the shortcut for switching between "show status bar" and "show overlay info" would be nice and kind-off more elegant option)

@sirien-neiris This extra mod move the Panel toggle to bottom right corner, just above the status toolbar:
.paneltogglefooter:hover {right: 0;} .paneltogglefooter { position: fixed; z-index: 9; box-shadow: none; border-radius: 0 7px 7px 0 !important; height: 30px; bottom: 26px; right: -27px; }
Have fun.

I don't know what is the reason for this shortcut, may I think this is that a visible statusbar seems old. I would also like to use an overlay statusbar as all modern browsers have, but this means in vivaldi to loose some functional things that is needed quickly. I strongly think that theses from status bar should be integrated into a drop menu into toolbars, this is one reason that I made this suggestion.

@seasonly I really like normal status bar so it shouldn't be removed. Maybe your request is good but please don't change V's customizability.

hey @dude99
It seems that after last Vivaldi update something got broken (there was some upgrade functionality for tabs and panels optimization)
Now when I apply your hack (fix? mod?), the whole bar starts behaving like it was set to "Show status info overlay" in standard preferences (which it is not). Is there a way to make it behave like it did before? The way you made it was perfect for me
cheers

@sirien-neiris You are right, that's the problem with mod, they do brake when developer makes drastic change to the software. I have updated the mod a few weeks back, you can search the forum for it: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/33105/automate-status-bar-with-css-mod
Enjoy, & happy new year!

@dude99 Thank you so much, happy new year to you too

In the latest snapshot, you now don't need to hunt for the setting. It remembers its last state when toggling: https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/desktop/assorted-fixes-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1789-3/
