Enable Cookie Editing, Export and Import
-
Requesting Vivaldi get support for cookie editing, export and import.
Any workarounds until this feature gets (maybe) implemented? Lest I get stuck using some (any) other browser.......

@losers Please search and vote for existing feature requests before adding duplicates.
For example: Better Cookie Management
If you add this link as a web panel you can easily search for other feature requests simply by changing the search string from "Cookie" to any other term. Enclose more than one word in quotes to search for a precise phrase.

Hi @Pesala .
I saw the post, read through it and figured it had nothing to do with my request, really. The post requested whitelist and a delete option; the latter exists already.
Am I wrong? I apologize if I made an unnecessary thread; but considering OPs request which I didn't want to intrude on (how will devs keep track of a pile of mess?) so I created a specific request.

@losers Are there any other browser that import and export cookies? It seems like a strange idea to me.
Opera 12.18 offers an option to edit cookies.
-
Hm, well I wasn't aware that this was such an odd thing. :o
Also sorry if I was being unclear.
IE supports cookie Import/export:
Chrome for the most part relies on extensions, or some digging through %appdata% to export the cookie files themselves. A few extensions for the sake of being informative: EditThisCookie (URL), Cookie Editor (URL)
Chrome does, however, display cookies in a text-format that can be manually copied over. Vivaldi does not.
Neither Chrome nor Vivaldi can import Cookies.Opera can import cookies.
Opera cannot export cookies directly, but also allows manually exporting as the cookies are displayed in text-format that can be copied.
While it's an absolute minor issue for few, and not an issue at all for most, I would still request the ability to get the values out of my cookies without manually typing them character-by-character (something that is impossible when the value looks like some sort of SHA5 hash; miles long with multiple characters that looks like others like "I and l".

I, too, would like to be able to edit cookies. One website in particular does not properly save a default setting in Vivaldi (or Opera). It does in Firefox. Replacing the controlling Opera cookie with the Firefox cookie fixes the problem in Opera. I assume it would fix the problem in Vivaldi as well.
-
I agree this would be a useful feature. Use case:
Actions performed on a website that are:
a) stored locally,
b) not practically repeatable, and
c) performed on another machine, or in another browserAren't reflected in Vivaldi. Editing the cookie might enable correction.
For example: I donated money to Wikipedia, and now it's not recognized in my Vivaldi browser on this machine, so they keep pestering me.
[I guess simplest solution would be to donate again :-)]

@Antonio4 This CSS modification will allow the copying of dialog text, which includes cookies.
Make Dialog Text Selectable
/*Make Dialog Text Selectable*/ #panels span, #panels h1, #panels h2, #panels h3, #panels li, #panels p, .startpage span, .startpage h1, .startpage h2, .startpage h3, .startpage li, .startpage p, .vivaldi-settings span, .vivaldi-settings h1, .vivaldi-settings h2, .vivaldi-settings h3, .vivaldi-settings li, .vivaldi-settings .ReactVirtualized__Grid, .keyboardShortcutsWrapper{user-select: text !important; -webkit-user-select: text !important;}

I think only Export|Import cookies from other chromium is actually do-able.
I don't see how this could be done from other browsers. But I could be wrong.@Antonio4 If both browsers are chromium based you can try to remove the vivaldi cookies file (better if it is synced -- as you'll lose them), closing vivaldi and then try to force a manual import of the other browser cookies file. Sync will try to merge, then. But I can't guarantee it'll work. Also, wikipedia has a very un-reliable way to store a donation; a dummy login would be better
@Pesala But not the editing...? (I didn't test that mod)
-
@Hadden89 Yes- Wiki should have a better process.
@Pesala Thanks for the syntax. I assume this can be executed in (Windows) Powershell (?) but:- As you already pointed out, the cookie is probably not editable, and
- If I'm reading it correctly, it seems I'd need to know some string within the cookie in order to retrieve it
I agree this is a fairly specific case, but I had a need, and tripped over the enhancement request, so wanted to throw a bit of weight behind it. I'm a recent convert to Vivaldi, so I guess some of these transition issues are inevitable.

@Antonio4 said in Enable Cookie Editing, Export and Import:

It is a CSS mod.

@Pesala Thanks again - your input is really appreciated! Given the objective, however, this is probably too much effort and potential of messing something up, not to mention being beyond my immediate skillset.
-
@Antonio4 It is as easy as eating cookies, but as pointed out, it will only allow you to copy them, not edit them.
-
Thank you for your request. As it has received few votes over 4 years, it is now going to be archived.
