An option to have the download history cleared when the browser exits would be a useful option.

I had noticed that on previous attempts to use Vivaldi, it would work fine, but the start-up time would take longer and use considerably more memory and CPU as days progressed that I was willing to put up with; previously Vivaldi has taken up to 5 minutes to start with the CPU running at 100% thus preventing any other application to run.
Recently, I realised that it was Vivaldi "processing" the download history which had been steadily gowning, and I found that so long as I kept it clear, Vivaldi would start without all the CPU hammering action.

If there was an option in the downloads configuration; Clear Download History on Exit; that would be checked on by me for sure.

@drgreen7 You can change the time to keep history in Settings, Privacy. If you leave it at Session Only or One Day that might be enough.

Your request is covered by Option to Clear Everything on Exit

I looked at your suggestion, but it did not seem applicable.
Browsing History has no bearing on the download list/history. I did test this by changing the aforementioned setting to "Session only", restarted Vivaldi, downloaded a few files, restarted Vivaldi, and then found the download list still populated by the previous sessions files.

The other thread, 'Option to Clear Everything…' appears to have a focus on the browser cache, which is a different element of Vivaldi as well. The instructions there are hampered by the first step not actually doing anything.
'vivaldi://settings/?search=cache' does not yield any results; it would appear that there are no cache options in the settings, so the search yields no results, or in this case, a blank screen.

At the moment, to prevent Vivaldi from hanging itself, I manually clear the download history on a daily basis, but I thought that if Vivaldi could do its own housekeeping on a regular basis, this would be good.

@drgreen7 My mistake. Clear Private Data offers the option to clear download history, as does the downloads panel, but both have to be done manually. Browsing history is something else.

However, the linked thread does cover your request.

Please add the ability to completely clear every trace of activity including downloads when exiting the program

Ahh, 'tis manual processing for the time being, unless the Vivaldi team decide that housekeeping is important.

@drgreen7 Agreed! I believe O12 had such an option once it was configured.
In addition,I'd like to see the the Focus in the Clear Private dialogchanged. It is now at the "Time (?)" location, for lack of a better term.

When using the keyboard one has to:

                • Ctrl+Shift+Delete
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Tab
                • Enter

Or if I think of it:

                • Ctrl+Shift+Delete
                • Shift+Tab
                • Shift+Tab
                • Enter

                Instead of O12's

                • Ctrl+Shift+Delete
                • Enter

Perhaps this is one of those Chromium quirks...

@drgreen7 Maybe a better request would be to meke it work as the "Save Browser History" as @Pesala showed. That is, an option to delete after a set time. I would likely set it to a week or so.

@rkzn Yes, ideally, a timed solution would work best so that it can be customised to a user's requirements. Precedence tells me I could only set it for 3 days at most before Vivaldi starts causing problems, although I would end up with a setting of 1 day or session.

@ghpy , Site Bleacher is the best workarround, apart of the settings in Vivaldi to clear the Browserdata every X time.
Site Bleacher only let the Browserdata of the whitelisted sites, nothing else.

                              @drgreen7

I agree with you, Vivaldi has so many issues but yet they claim to be the best browser with options for the user… I have invested a lot of my time and it seems they don't care about that.

This browser does so many things poorly, no cookie control, does not clear downloads, poor mouse gestures, bookmarks are clumsy old fashioned Windows tree no slide outs. Their mail program where do I start.and what about previously opened webpages? This goes on forever what were they thinking. I end up spending more time clearing everything by hand. Good one Vivaldi.

I am using a third-party app to stop cookies from building up. But why should Vivaldi expect third-party people to fix their browser problems.

The people that work for Vivaldi are also a little bit sensitive on their project which that's fine but it's like they've never used a properly working browser and everything here is in beta sorry in Alpha mode.

I don't think they like me much it so easy to point out with this browser does poorly. The engine for YouTube probably the chrome engine which is why it works so well for YouTube and I like this and this alone. It beats my previous browser but fails in absolutely everything else. Sure it seems to work if you don't mind clumsy ugly too many things in your face and all the important stuff doesn't exist browser. Like I said I've invested a lot of my time into this browser I'm keeping it for now but how can they not listen to people.

Oh yeah there's a lot more problems but it's late anyway I agree with you

Don't hate me Vivaldi team just understand that we put in so many hours on our end . I've invested a lot so I'm sticking around in the hope some things change. Finding a browser is difficult. It takes on average at least 2 to 3 months of using one every day to customize it and to find out what works and what does not. Give us a break it's not easy for us as well
