HID devices issue
-
When I use a vivaldi and connect HID devices such as keyboards and mice through the vendor-provided web driver,I am unable to connect them. However,do not have any related issues when using Edge or Chrome.
-
@st2485599 That is a known and confirmed bug in 6.7 stable; it does not detect the HID devices.
VB-106357 HID device not detected - Confirmed. -
If this is a known issue does this mean it is going to be fixed? Right now it is preventing me from flashing my keyboard. Right now I have to use some other browser to do the flashing.

A confirmed bug, no dev assigend, no progress.

Yes. The best way as a workaround when Vivaldi is broken.

Hi,
Just chiming in here to say it's happening to me as well, just so the bug could get more exposure. I'm constantly using HID Remapper via its web config tool for my mouse and keyboard devices but unfortunately Vivaldi can't detect anything.
Hoping for a fix in a not-too-distant future.

Same here, using VIA to configure my keyboard is currently not possible with Vivaldi. This used to work nicely with earlier versions.

@Superdude42 Known and unfixed bug in Vivaldi.

if you recall in which version it wasn't broken might be useful to devs and testers
-
I hoped this would be fixed in next stable which was released few days ago, but no, it's still broken.
I feel like this should be given more priority, it's really annoying to remember it's broken and switch to other browser just to do what I wanted, then get back to Vivaldi for normal browsing again.

Stumbled here after experiencing this issue on usevia.app myself. I'm just leaving another comment to let the devs know that we care!

WebHID issue was fixed since 6.10.3464.3 Snapshot.

I read in one of the posts a while ago that it can expose security issues. I suggest an option that is disabled by default and users (like me) have to enable it for it to work. Hopefully this solution benefits both parties.

Yo get a popup which asks to access, and if needed for you: disable in Settings → Privacy and Security → Website Permissions → HID Device .

@DoctorG Hi Doctor.
I have been reading forums, reddit, and everything I could regarding this bug. I have seen your comments multiple times in forums, thank you for being that attentive.
I came today to say that unfortunately the bug was not fixed for me, even after installing Snapshot's version 6.10.3464.3 as you suggested.
In fact, there's now a new version of Vivaldi Snapshot (3468.3) and that does not work either. When I say it doesn't work I mean that when I click the button to connect to the HID (that, in Chromium, would normally prompt the browser popup alert asking me if I want to proceed) the browser simply closes.
On the other hand, the Vivaldi normal version (6.9.3447.48) doesn't close when I click the "Connect HID" button, but simply does nothing, no prompt whatsoever.
I have tried different types of HID connections/websites/and extensions, and none seem to work. Also I've tried different computers, no luck. I am in macOS.
Is there anything you can think of that might be causing the bugfixed version to not work for me? Thank you in advance for your time and help
Edit: to add to this comment, I've also tried toggling here: Settings → Privacy and Security → Website Permissions → HID Device
The dropdown does not let me select "Allow". It only selects properly when I click "Ask" or "Block". Happens on both normal and snapshot versions.

Please report issue to Vivaldi bug tracker. Once that is done, share the bug number (beginning with VB-) you got by bug report mail.
Thanks for helping us making Vivaldi better. It would be great if you could send the dev team crash dumps so that they can understand what is triggering the crashes.
Here's more info about how to send crash dump files for Windows

Just updated to Vivaldi 7.0.3495.6 Stable on Windows 11 x64. Unfortunately still not working.
Here's a screencap from HID remapper's web UI.
Even after resetting permissions and/or doing a full cleanup of Vivaldi my device(s) just won't connect. Still works on Chrome and Edge though. Also, no crash was encountered thus no logs to submit.

@Xypher A known issue, device is detected in popup but not connected to. Still not fixed in 7.0.
-
@DoctorG Thanks for confirming! I thought the discussions here were skewing towards the issue assumed having been sorted out via the previous snapshots.
-
Thanks for confirming @Xypher I wasn't sure if it was the page or the HID issue.
