Depending of the country from the user, a good VPN or similar can be essential, but normally it isn't so needed. I don't care much if a Website can see my public IP and tecnical data from my system, which is the same for millons of other users from my country, the only thing is to avoid the data which are personal identificable, as said an unique fingerprint or similar, which can be blocked easily with extensions which randomize this data.
I use a VPN Proxie extension (CyberGhost) only for skipping country restricted Videos, for which it works very well, not for other things.
To help people in other countries with strong surveillance, there is another possibility, Snowflake, which is free. -
You definitely need to break something in the new build, there’s no way without it...
-
@Capushon May I be allowed to suggest (to you and others) that when posting/submitting screenshots that the English UI is used? Admittedly, there may be cases where a screenshot of the UI also needs to be in the user's language, but that will usually need to be compared to the English variant anyway.
-
Is this will be paid service later? Please add feature to disable this extension
-
@yngve
is it now possible to set the language of the UI for each vivaldi profile individually? last time, I tried this wasn't possible -

No idea, it is not the area I work in; but what I meant is to preferably change temporarily to English, then go back afterwards.
The point is, while we have a couple of employees (or volunteers) that e.g. speak/understand Russian, for the rest of us, except possibly those who work at that specific code, it can be difficult to tell where a screenshot is from when we can't read the text, at least if the report also includes such information separately.

@sprayer It IS already disabled, unless you actively enables it.
-
lol american-run company and the word 'privacy' do not go together.
-
@v0id So this Icelandic company with headquarters in Iceland and Norway and an office in Massachusetts as well, owned and operated by its Icelandic/Norwegian founder and its European/Nordic employees is "American-run?" Interesting.
-
@yngve I turned it on today. No glitches so far.
-
I noticed a significant delay (5-6 seconds) when loading YouTube videos (Vivaldi’s ad-blocking is enabled) when Privacy Guard is enabled.
-
@greenenemy Very often, the name "VPN" is a lie. Opera Browser's "free VPN" is not actually a VPN at all, but a proxy service (which collects and sells data). Many "VPNs" are actually just proxies, mis-named. A real VPN (which no one offers for free as nearly as I can tell) encrypts your traffic and sends it through a secure tunnel from point-to-point. A proxy just spoofs your IP address and encrypts nothing. As a rule, an actual VPN safeguards your entire system and all internet traffic. A proxy is only employed by a single app and, again, does not offer VPN protection. I would guess that Vivaldi would not like to lie to their users by pretending Privacy Guard is a VPN when it isn't, and can't be.
-
@Pesala Hmm. Zero delay here with Vivaldi ad and tracker blocking, plus Privacy Guard.
-
@Ayespy Maybe it depends on your location?
-
@Pesala Beats me...
-
@Ayespy , the above mencioned CyberGhost extension is such a Proxie, I know it, but as said, is enough to skip country restrictions in videos, it's free, do a god job, is fast, anonimous and don't log. In desktop I've a real VPN (free) from Proton, which I rarely use. That is enough for me, for the use I give it, for me it's not worth to spend money for paid apps, if free versions do the job.
For some profesions or people in certain countries it may be different, but not for an old retiree like me, I'm to old for tin foil hats. -

Same with Vivaldi blocking as "Tracker only".
Also a smaller delay when first loading these forums (after browser restart). -

I asked for removal, but I should have said "remove from toolbar".
Well, you can remove the button via right click > edit > remove as the other ones (I guess).

Ok.
I'm talking about the Ctrl+Shift+Del window, it's in the picture above, they lost the circular progress arrow (.in-progress).
