Crash Tab | Bird Image
-
Well I've managed to repeatedly get the Bird tonight https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/energy then selecting "My Replies" in the same tab, page very briefly appears then the bird. Refreshing the tab produces the page.
System Information and Task Manager running, no other Apps. Over 1GB System memory available (~1.1-1.2), spare GPU dedicated memory available, can't assess how much but on all the graph plots no sign of any memory surge causing an OOM.
I'll upload bug crash reports later. Still on 6.6.3271.53
I just tried turning off Windows Defender Real Time Protection, no difference, still get the bird. -
@ChrisAO123
Hi, I created an account and can confirm the bird.
9 GB memory available, Windows 11, 6.6.3271.53.
I have exclude vivaldi.exe in Defender.Cheers, mib
EDIT: I can reproduce the bird on my laptop too, specs in my signature. -
@mib2berlin Hi, thanks for your reply and success in getting the same. It's really odd what's happening.
Cheers, Chris. -
@ChrisAO123
Hi and all other birds friends, a new Vivaldi 6.6 update should fix this.
The https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/energy bird is gone for me.Cheers, mib
-
Well, upgraded to 6.6.3271.55 and so far, no birds, so fingers crossed.
Wonder what the cause and fix was then? -
@ChrisAO123
Hi, I am glad it work now for you and hopefully for all other user, too.
I have no inside to the code changes but as @yngve mentioned it could be a Java script on some pages cause this in combination with low memory.
My systems have enough memory so a script cause this, but this is only guessing from a user not a developer.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin I've "found/discovered" a new "bird" testing page - https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Event/Index/bb6308fe-642b-4450-b74b-e048805c4ba2
Quite a shock really as it appeared on my other machine where I don't recall ever having had it before, certainly with none of the previously mentioned pages earlier in the thread! Different hardware but otherwise very similar and the same amount of memory.
I then spotted that I was still on 6.6.3271.50 on that machine. Upgraded to 6.6.3271.55 and no bird !
Let's hope @yngve comes back when he has time and tells us what the issue and fix was. -
@ChrisAO123 I don't know precisely what the issue/issues were, as mentioned earlier, one of the later crashers you reported was related to a known issue, which got fixed by yet another patch (VB-104297) in the last minor update. This issue seems to have been triggered, in some cases at least, by a ":~:"-related search syntax in URLs, used to navigate to specific text in a page.
The second crasher was an OOM in JS memory allocation, apparently when trying to allocate a big block of memory for handling JS objects. That one has not, at least, been fixed by us; but if it has been fixed, it could be one of the fixes from Chromium to the minor update. Still, with little memory available, one should be careful about how many applications is running at the same time, and also how many pages are open at a time (not sure how hibernation would play into this).
-
@yngve Thanks for your further information, very helpful.
Generally speaking, when I've had the bird issues I've not had any other apps running, sometimes the Windows Mail app may have been open, but it's rare and not made any difference. -
@Capushon
Hi! how do made like that ?
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/744658 -
For some reason the bird is back tonight -
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/energy
only have to scroll the page and it appears!!
Still on 6.6.3271.55 nothing else changed.
Just about to upgrade to 57 to see if that fixes it. -
@ChrisAO123 Can not reproduce with 6.6.3271.57 Win 11 on this page, no "dead bird" page.
Please check Troubleshooting issues.
-
@DoctorG Been through all that thanks, see earlier in the thread, and it was reproduced elsewhere.
The upgrade to 6.6.3271.57 made no difference.
It's all a bit weird as I normally have two "start page" tabs open, along with other tabs not active (effectively hibernated).
This happened in the 2nd of those tabs, closed it, closed browser, reopened, used the remaining "start page" tab and didn't have a problem that time.
Since then it was a bit random until this evening and now it's very regular. I'll have to experiment a bit more to see if there's any pattern. I've got both Task Manager and System Information running and not showing anything obvious. -

Not by users after upgrade to 6.6.3271.57
I see you done the testing before, but if you could just do a test/check using Guest Profile
and report what was the load (tabs etc.) when the "bird" appears, that would be useful information (thinking of OOM problem). -
@ChrisAO123 If you see the tab crash (dead bird) again, check for crasdumps from time of crash.
It would be great if you could send the dev team crash dumps so that they can understand what is triggering the crashes.
Here's more info about how to send crash dump files:
-
@DoctorG Been there, done that, as per earlier in the thread. When I've played about a bit more I'll send some more if it looks as though they could be useful.
@TbGbe Did that before thanks, when most recently checked it also did it on the Guest Profile. This isn't a straight forward OOM issue. @mib2berlin managed to reproduce it on an earlier version and he has loads of memory. @yngve was thinking it was related to a Java script issue, and there was a suggestion that a Chrome update may have fixed the previous incident. But I think there's been another Chrome update since, and was now getting it on my other machine (similar spec but different hardware) with 6.6.3271.55 and I'd (previous to the most recent issues) not had a problem on that machine. Having updated to 6.6.3271.57 on that machine, I haven't managed to repeat it (yet)but we will see! Not sure, but I thought when checking quickly Chrome hasn't changed between 6.6.3271.55 & 57, but I didn't look thoroughly and certainly no expert on this.

@ChrisAO123 dead Raven - Vivaldi Kaput
-
@Donhoe No, means a tab crashed, not "Vivaldi ist kaputt".
-
@DoctorG after recent update and losing all my tabs again - i think it is time to move on so it is Kaput to me - i did not have these issues in Chrome
-
@Donhoe Have much fun with the browser you selected to use now.
