... This was not meant as offense but I know downgrade is not a solution.
Copy your User Data folder to a save place and remove/install Vivaldi to test if Vivaldi work in a clean state.Cheers, mib
Not that it was offensive, it was off-topic to my question. You insist on telling me that downgrade is not a solution when my actual problem was in fact with the "downgrade". You are effectively expanding my problem statement and actions on your volition.

@deneban Not sure how relevant those Registry entries are. A lot of them I think are "leftovers" from the Chromium installer which Vivaldi is based on. And I think many of them are simply used to populate the installer with the values used from the last install and has no relevance to if the AutoUpdate is enabled once installed.
For instance, I have:
Vivaldi\AutoUpdate\Enabled = 1
Vivaldi\AutoUpdate\CheckForUpdates = 0
But never any autoupdate for any of my dozen or so Standalone installs - unless I explicitly allow it in Settings.I also have:
Vivaldi\DisableStandaloneAutoupdate = 1
AFAIK this only tells the installer that the AutoUpdate should be disabled by default for Standalone installs (since it was the last choice made)You could try to just delete the whole
Vivaldi
key and try another install, might help. Backup the key before deletion just in case.A test you will need to do is to simply install the previous Snapshot as Standalone:

Make sure to disable AutoUpdate during install, then check if the installation is updated or not after launch. -

Home run Pathduck. Having done your suggested experiment, the "leftovers" appear to be exactly what I thought: leftover from Vivaldi's former life before profiles and back in the day when we were able to install per windows user. Exported and deleted that Vivaldi key and it never came back and fixed the issue!
[HKEY_USERS\user GUID\SOFTWARE\Vivaldi]
As a consequence of deleting that key, I just started getting Vivaldi push notifications for the first time ever! Yeah there's some hidden rats nests worth reporting, like asking the the installer delete that registry key if it exists. But I have had enough excitement for one day; in the words of Arthur Dent, "I am going to have to go have a lie down somewhere".

@deneban Glad to hear that
Personally I've not had to do such a "purge" in a very long time - and I install Vivaldi Standalones all the time. I have had a few times I've had to erase the key because the installer would give the dreaded "unspecificed error" during install - but that's maybe once or twice over the last five years.
[HKEY_USERS\user GUID\SOFTWARE\Vivaldi]
Note that you generally don't need to enter HKEY_USERS, as the currently logged on user will be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Unless you have a system with several users and want to change all of them from an Admin account of course

@EricJH Actually it should be the profile icon which is also (sometimes) present on top the vivaldi icon, is expected.

Opening images via Dev Tools yet again crashes Vivaldi. It feels like every new update fixes a bug and brings two new ones.

@planetary Seems to be fixed in internal 6.5.3212.

So, currently I am running Snapshot version 6.5.3206.33 (Official Build) (64-bit), and I do not recognize any further crashes! yay
