The problem is that while there are several competitors to YouTube, Google dominates the ad market along with Meta, so YouTube is much more lucrative to creators until such time as they are demonetised by Google.
YouTube also generally has better features and usability. Hardly surprising given its longevity and Google's megabucks.
So Google figures they can do this and not lose much. In fact, they probably gain overall.

YouTube ironically served me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bhy66w5nVK0 this morning. Wonder how long it will be up for!?
Essentially, the latest version of uBlock Origin where you first disable any other ad block on YT, then in dashboard click Purge all caches followed by Update Now. The YT fix is using uBlock filters – Quick fixes. This updates once every 12 hours. YT also updates several times a day, so I don't know how stable this workaround will be. I've only tried it on a single video so far. So currently on YT I have Vivaldi's blocker set to Block Trackers with uBlock enabled.
I also spotted in a thread that another option is to allow ads, then click Share followed by Embed.

In my country, shows the message of "Youtube is banning ad-blockers",but it does not disable it to show ads, it's just like a "Hey, you pesky little criminal! You silly little prick!" then does nothing to stop.

Such YT nagging similar to "You make us poor, you content thief. You have to eat our bad food we call Ads" is the best way to lose visitors!
Pages which nag me in such ways are not visited anymore.
If YT needs money they should get it from the uploaders.And if people think a paid YT premium account will be a solution, i will tell: they will spam you with ads - because as a private company they can.

Something I discovered earlier is that it also has a sponsor block feature (disabled by default). I just enabled it on a video with a sponsored section and it worked.

@wintercoast, Piped do it too. I also use FreeTube, but it don't work well sometimes, depending on it's Invidious APIs which use, because of this I set the SMplayer as extern player in the case when FreeTube fails. It streams the Video/MM file as such, without ads or other crap

My brother uses FireFox, and he said that YouTube is not being blocked for him. So I decided to do it. I am using the uBlock Origin ad-blocker, and I'm having no problem so far (it's been just a day now). For those who have partisan feelings about browsers, I am not recommending that everyone switch to FireFox. Rather, I am now keeping one FireFox window open for YouTube videos, a couple Chrome windows open for sites that need JavaScript turned off, and the rest are Vivaldi windows.
Can uBlock Origin be used in Vivaldi? I decided to disable Vivaldi's own ad-blocker, but YouTube is still blocking me in Vivaldi. Once they stop blocking me, I'll try third-party ad-blockers in Vivaldi. (I need to reread this thread.)

@CalebM I use uBO in Vivaldi, and I never see ads nor the blocking in YouTube. I just have the standard blocklists enabled in uBO, maybe a couple more of the standard lists enable. I am always signed in to YT.
Of course, it might just be that YT has simply not rolled out this "experiment" (as they call it) to Norway yet. Maybe they are more aggressive in the US and UK and other countries.

The same here, no ads with only default filter lists in uBO.

Thanks for the feedback. My immediate problem is that I disabled Vivaldi's ad-blocking feature (at least, I think I did), but YouTube is still blocking me in Vivaldi. Once they stop blocking me, I can install uBlock Origin in Vivaldi and see what happens.
Can someone remind me of how to disable Vivaldi's ad-blocker, just in case I'm doing it wrong?
YouTube really has put me between a rock and a hard place. Their ads are just too obnoxious to endure, yet $14 a month is way more than I'm willing to pay.

Your philosophy is totally wrong, and I will illustrate it with an example:
According to you, if a person buys a Toyota car, then he should be sure that 100% of the car's components were manufactured by the Toyota factory, from the lights to the brakes. This, as we all know is not so, Toyota achieves its excellence by "integrating" to what it manufactures the best additional components (Extensions, Mods, Scripts, etc) to achieve its final goal.
This is how all browsers from Firefox to Chrome are "designed" from their conception.
It is impossible to obtain "excellence" in 100% of the components of a browser without "helping" with other manufacturers of lights and brakes that have reached excellence, because they are dedicated only to that.

Of course you did not name the word philosophy, but clearly it is implied "a way of thinking of the browser". When you hate to do something, there is an implicit conception that you are being "forced" to do something you shouldn't do, because the browser should provide it to you naturally.
And truth be told, I'm not mentioning it for you since the concept is already in your head, but for the new users that will join this forum.
