Youtube trialling new ad-blocking
-
Crossroads of thought.
-
@iAN-CooG Have to agree there, mixing adblock solutions doesn’t make sense, furthermore ublock is actively working on fixes for the youtube situation. Personally I’m not affected yet, sticking with the internal blocker for the time being.
-
I hope the Vivaldi team can do something about this anti-adblock popup from Youtube because this is really annoying. I get the popup twice today.
-
@luetage The Vivaldi internal adblocker is using ublock ?
-
I used to use Feedbro to follow 30 X accounts (ex Twitter), but since changed ownership, they are no longer updated.
My concern is that the same could happen to the YT feeds.
If one follows the same logic, the same thing would most likely happen.

@barbudo2005, otherwise uBO+JShelter? uBO is a good ad/trackerblocker, but JShelter, similar to NoScript has nothing to do with this, it's a Fingerprint protection, not an adblocker. Same with my other Extension, SiteBleacher, it also don't block ads, but delete selective all data which the page want to put in my browser or PC, after leaving this page. They are privacy complements to the Vivaldi blocker or uBO. Firefox has a better fingerprint protection as Vivaldi, but even in FF, JShelter is way better.
https://jshelter.org/faq/ -
@macadoum No. But both draw from a shared pool of blocklists. ublock supports a few more features and has different defaults. Most users aren’t able to setup their own sources, judge adblockers by their defaults and think the adblock maintainers need to get active, when in fact few blocklists are maintained by them. For example Vivaldi maintains just a single whitelist for partners.

Well, Vivaldi i have used for many yeras as it's the best, however this new youtube BS banning desktop users who use Adblockers has just got too much, none of the scripts etc work for more than a day, so i tried firefox & all is back to normal, no wanrings nothing, having read lots of post about this, it seems obvious that due to vivaldi being basicaly Chrome, which is part of the whole Google/youtube control, i am reluctanty switching to firefox, as they have me completely blocked using vivaldi
-
PPathduck moved this topic from Vivaldi for Windows on
-
I'm in a similar situation as @glenart1. Using only uBO with Vivaldi ad-blocking disabled still blocks youtube player. Using Firefox allows me to watch youtube without a problem. In an ideal world, Vivaldi wouldn't be chromium based... but that's a big ask I suppose. I enjoy this browser and its features far and beyond anything else I've used, but I feel like I'm being forced to switch to Firefox for the time being.

I'm not affected by those shenanigans I read, but you could test also this brutal list (by @TheQuantumAlpha & @Pinkisjustnumbers) with your system's
hosts
file, it covers over 4 million domains .[I use it as the 1st line of defense (that covers also other browsers automatically) and it is much faster too as it works on the OS network level (deeper than any browser's C++/slow JS engine <-extensions), but keep in mind that if you need to unblock a domain you 've got to comment it out manually (not a problem with GNU's
sed
&grep
).] -
Brutal list didn't work for me. Unfortunately. Youtube player still blocked.
-
@TbGbe
Same with me, but now after many video they told me: you have your last 3 video, after we will block all for you ( or similar )....
it´s really a problem... -
For those users who are desperate with the YT issue, on Reddit's YT channel they recommended this script:
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/477725-youtube-iframe-adblocker
"YouTube iFrame Bypass" is an ingenious userscript that helps persistent YouTube viewers bypass the frustrating "Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube" message. It employs a clever technique of dynamically inserting an iframe player to replace the standard YouTube player. This method effectively circumvents YouTube's ad-blocker detection, allowing for an uninterrupted, ad-free viewing experience even after YouTube's standard measures have been triggered. Ideal for those who have been directly targeted by the anti-adblocker prompt and do not wish to disable their ad blockers or subscribe to YouTube Premium."
You have to install previously the extension Tampermonkey:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo
I have not tested it because I do not have the problem.

@TARININATHAGHORIDURGADEVI The question is how do they track? If it’s by IP address, only a VPN would help. Should it be cookies or logged in users, the first thing to try is never logging in and always removing cookies after you close youtube.
-
@barbudo2005 Well this IS now working for me, having previously being banned from any content, i hope i can keep using Vivaldi, other methods have lasted a day only, so time will tell.
Fantastic for now thanking U:) -
@glenart1 This has nothing to do with Vivaldi, you will run into the same issue on all other browsers.
-
Well i have simply stated MY experience & i have zero issues on firefox & as i just posted, the scripts i just found posted here have by "barbudo2005
" HAVE re enabled vivaldi! So there -
@glenart1 Take a look around the web. People are reporting the same issues all over browser communities, including Firefox. No one stops you from using Firefox of course, if it helps you right now, but again, it’s not a Vivaldi/Chrome/Brave/Firefox/Safari issue. It’s Google declaring war on adblockers no matter the setup.
-
Aye so i've READ, yet i say again, I have NO issues reverting 2 firefox, but i'm currently back 2 my fav Vivaldi with the current fixes
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/477725-youtube-iframe-adblocker
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo
& i'm NOT stating everyone should just jump 2 firefox, yet it.s working for me 2 days now without any issue, That MAY change
& the updated vivaldi solution may also change, what will NEVER change is I/We will NEVER accept Ads under ANY circumstances!
It's the reason i stopped watching TV over 10 years ago, as i'd have kicked a hole in the screen otherwise, & they are NOT imposing
their control onto my computer. Best solution would be a viable alternative to youtube, so we can ALL leave their control, cause that's
what it's all about, & money of course, which is Control also. -
@glenart1, that is the point. It is correct that certain measures to block ads on YT work for a few days, until Google, with its enormous resources, discovers it and finds countermeasures in its war against adblocker.
This cannot be a solution in the long run and of course alternatives must be found, since Google has even begun to block front-ends, such as Piped, CloudTube, Invidious, etc., which can no longer play most of the videos. FreeTube, the desktop client, is now completely unusable.
At the moment the only alternative to YT, not related to Google, is the IMDB online service, Odysee, where you can even transfer subscriptions and playlists, although somewhat complicated.
For the desktop, SMPlayer allows you to watch streaming videos, also those from YT, by pasting the URL of the video.
There is also a FOSS extension that allows you to record the sound of the music video in the active tab, for downloading it in mp3.
It's a David versus Goliath fight, which I hope ends the same way.
